In God, joy and suffering can sit right next to each other. A longing for justice, and a celebration of each petal of a daisy. The agony of our cruelty to one another, and the hope that we will do better. It all fits in there.

Today, we consider joy. Hear the call of “Come celebrate with me!” Know that it means we are always invited in to God’s joy no matter what else may be going on in or around us.

This is who God is—an instigator of joy, someone who invites us *all* to the feast.

The sanctuary cornices are going to look a little rough for the next couple weeks while old, flaking paint is power washed off, but it’s all in preparation for a fresh coat of paint to protect from rust for many years to come. A little beautification and preservation project right here on the corner of Walnut & Jefferson and beautiful Downtown Springfield

"I’m sure I’d heard this section of scripture before, but something clicked inside. It was almost as if Jesus was saying to me what he was trying to imply to the law makers of his day. A life of faith is not about obedience and rule following. It’s not about what you don’t do, it’s about what you are doing. Love isn’t defined by rules. Instead it’s marked by rule-breaking. Mercy, compassion, and justice. These things—some of the defining characteristics of God—are made more abundant when we actually put them into practice."
