The Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois are a congregation of vowed Catholic women whose members minister in the United States and Peru. Our Vision Statement: Committed to living the Dominican charism exemplified by Dominic, Catherine of Siena and other holy women and men, we embrace the courage and trust of our foundresses and respond to the signs of our times. Confident in God’s ongoing r

evelation and stirred by prophetic imagination, we preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ from the depth of our communion with God and one another. As vowed Dominican women, we enflesh this Word in our world, a Word we contemplate and celebrate with joy, study attentively, live in community and proclaim in ministry.

Rosary graduates, representing the class of 1976, made a visit to Sacred Heart Convent to share miniature butterfly gardens with the sisters in Regina Coeli as well as donations of art supplies, puzzle and joke books, candy and other treasures. They brought much joy with them to the sisters!

Today, Sept. 1, we observe the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, a day Pope Francis established in 2015 to invite Catholics around the world to pray for creation and renew our commitment to caring for our common home.

Today also begins the Season of Creation, which continues through Oct. 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

In his message for this year’s World Day of Prayer, Pope Leo XIV reminds us that the wounds of our world – violence, injustice, and ecological destruction – are deeply connected. Caring for creation calls us not only to change what is around us, but also to allow God to renew what is within us.

As Dominican Sisters and Associates, we are called to live in right relationship with all creation. Today, we pray for the healing of our wounded world and for the courage to become part of that healing.

May we move, as Pope Leo writes, “slowly but surely, from desert to garden, from division to communion, and from violence to peace.”
