The Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois are a congregation of vowed Catholic women whose members minister in the United States and Peru. Our Vision Statement: Committed to living the Dominican charism exemplified by Dominic, Catherine of Siena and other holy women and men, we embrace the courage and trust of our foundresses and respond to the signs of our times. Confident in God’s ongoing revelation and stirred by prophetic imagination, we preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ from the depth of our communion with God and one another. As vowed Dominican women, we enflesh this Word in our world, a Word we contemplate and celebrate with joy, study attentively, live in community and proclaim in ministry.

🌎✨ 250 Sisters Who Shaped the USA: Sisters Janet Guretz, OP, Doris Taylor, OP, and Mary Rene Lawless, OP 🇺🇸

In 1961, the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois, answered the call to missionary service in the mountains of Peru. 🇵🇪⛰️ Sisters Janet Guretz (Mary de Montfort), Doris Taylor (Mary Leona), and Mary Rene Lawless were among the pioneers who helped bring the Dominican mission to life in communities across the country.

📚 By 1964, the Sisters were serving in schools, prisons, and parishes, as well as ministering to young people in La Oroya, Lima, and Jarpa. Their work continues today through six Peruvian Sisters, 28 Peruvian Associates, and two North Americans who carry forward this mission of faith and service. 🙏🏽

Their story is a powerful reminder that the Dominican call to preach and serve crosses borders, building relationships, sharing faith, and nurturing hope across cultures and generations. 🌎
