Pastor Tom's Weekly T'Mail
May 20, 2026
I want to begin this edition of my weekly T-Mail by saying a great big âthank youâ to Judy Fredrich and Jerry Angst for planting and watering all the geraniums around the building. These, you will remember, were donated by members of our congregation and displayed in the chancel on Motherâs Day. So now, bring on the red color!
Speaking of the color âredâ just a quick reminder that you are invited to wear red clothing on Sunday. That is one of the church traditions geared to remind us of the red in the flames when the Holy Spirit descended. Thatâs right! This is Pentecost Sunday, also known as the birthday of the church. With the arrival of the Holy Spirit, the church was launched into its mission of bringing the good news to the whole world â a mission we try to faithfully fulfill every day of our life together as a congregation. So it is a day of celebration!
Sunday is also a somber day, of course, for we remember those military personnel who gave their lives for the freedom our country enjoys. We will recognize our current and former military members in worship this weekend, and as we do we will honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Thanks to all of you for serving!
At the 10:45 service on Sunday, we will formally install Dennis Fry as our Director of Youth Ministry. Dennis will have been âon the jobâ for 24 days. He is off to a great start, making connections with our youth and their families. Keep him in your prayers, and if you havenât already done so ⊠be sure to introduce yourself to him and his family.
Iâm sure you assumed as much, but just in case ⊠The Grace office is closed on Monday for the Memorial Day holiday.
I am so proud of how quickly you all responded to Leslie McKinneyâs display about Vacation Bible School. The âneedsâ list is almost completely taken care of. Good job Grace! Now get those kids registered. Put Pentecost Sunday into practice by inviting those neighborhood kids to VBS!
While we are celebrating the birth of Christâs church this weekend, one of our sister congregations will be celebrating its own 150th anniversary this coming weekend. Grace Lutheran Church in West Carrollton will cap off its year-long celebration of that milestone with a 4 pm service featuring Bishop Emeritus John Bradosky. Many of you remember him and I am sure you would enjoy that service.
Thanks for all your suggestions and concerns about the damage to our roof and steeple in one recent storms. On Tuesday the roofer replaced the missing ridge cap shingles, just in time for that big storm last night. The repair of the cross will be a bigger project, unfortunately. Keep praying about that one. Once the cross is repaired, we will be able to address the inside damage that has occurred.
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend! Be blessed, and I will see you in church on Sunday!
