Westminster Presbyterian Church

Westminster Presbyterian Church A vital, affirming congregation of John Calvin Presbytery, the Synod of Mid-America, and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

For over 125 years, Westminster has been a strong Presbyterian - PC (USA) - presence in Springfield. Our strengths include relevant and dynamic preaching, inspirational music, and Christian Education for all ages. As individual disciples, and as the corporate Body of Christ, we are active in mission outreach to our community and beyond. We are an affirming, warm, "family of faith" and we are quick

to make friends out of strangers regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender orientation. We seek to live out the belief from the Westminster Shorter Catechism of the 18th century: "The chief end of [humanity] is to glorify God and enjoy him forever."

Due to extreme temperatures and anticipated snowfall overnight, we will not meet for worship tomorrow.

Oppressive systems like patriarchy, poverty, and poor heath, leave so many like the “bent over woman” in Luke 13:10-17. Might the touch of Jesus restore dignity and hope?

Join us this weekend for Back to School Sunday! Students of all ages are invited to Westminster to celebrate the beginning of another school year. At 9:30 am we will provide breakfast in the gym followed by a tour of the classrooms. At 10:30 we will move to the sanctuary for worship where students will receive a blessing from Pastor Micki. All students are invited to bring their backpacks and we look forward to celebrating another year of education!

Listen to Pastor Micki's latest sermon: Freedom For What? Connecting Immanuel Kant’s Categorical Imperative, Michael Sandel’s critique of utilitarianism, and the Apostle Paul’s Ethics of Love

Westminster's theme this year is "watch for the light". May we keep watching. And working. And loving.

As Hurricane Milton approaches, right on the heels of Hurricane Helene, we pray for those in its path, that they may find safety and resilience. We pray for a swift and effective resolution to the climate crisis that is spurring these intense and frequent storms. Lord, hear our prayer.

Unlike Butker, Dr. Pulleyking and the Barbie Movie believe that women are more than conduits for babymaking, (which does not mean that parenting is not deeply meaningful for women and men). Take a listen to this sermon and others at Westminster, that speak for equality among all humans.
