On Saturday, August 29, 2026, faith leaders and community representatives from across Springfield gathered at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse in South Springfield for a breakfast focused on "Faith, Freedom, and Doing Good Together."

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we want to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us. We were honored to welcome representatives from:
• Sikh Temple of the Ozarks
• Dinh Quang Buddhist Temple
• Baha'i Community
• Temple Israel
• University Heights Baptist Church
• The Episcopal Church
• NAACP Springfield Branch
• Resurrection Church (Methodist)
• Messiah Lutheran Church
• India Association of the Ozarks (Hindu)
• Missouri State University Department of Languages, Cultures, and Religions
• American Indian Center of Springfield
• Trinity Presbyterian Church
• American Momin Park Mosque (Islam)

We were also honored by the participation of Elder Alan and Sister Gauldin (Area Authority Seventy), Gabe and Heather Reid of the General Sunday School Presidency, President Devon Jarvis of the Springfield Missouri Stake, and President Spencer Kirk of the Springfield South Stake Presidency.

During our discussion, participants shared ways our faith communities have supported one another during times of tragedy, explored opportunities to strengthen those relationships in the future, and discussed how faith can inspire us to love our neighbors and build a more united and peaceful community.

We are deeply grateful for the friendships we have developed with our brothers and sisters of many faiths. While we may differ in theology and doctrine, we are united by our shared commitment to faith, family, service, religious freedom, and caring for our neighbors. We believe our community is stronger when people of goodwill work together in mutual respect and understanding.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this meaningful conversation. We look forward to continuing these friendships and finding even more opportunities to serve and do good together.

We also invite all to watch President Dallin H. Oaks, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, upcoming keynote address, "Faith, Freedom, and the Common Good," at the Washington National Cathedral on September 16.

After years of extensive renovation and structural upgrades, the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will open its signature temple April 5 to the public — Mormons and non-Mormons alike – for six months of unprecedented tours. The church recently gave CNN a preview — and a rare peek behind the curtain of a religion many view as cloistered. https://cnn.it/4qDP3oF
