Cotton Hill United Methodist Church

Cotton Hill United Methodist Church At Cotton Hill United Methodist Church, our vision is to Love Like Jesus.

As followers of Christ, we want to share with others the great love and grace that has been made available to us through Jesus Christ.

We spend so much of our lives trying to hold everything together.

We make plans. We prepare for every outcome. We try to stay one step ahead of uncertainty, grief, failure, or change because we fear what might happen if everything falls apart.

But Genesis 28 tells the story of a weary, fleeing Jacob who finally runs out of road. Alone in the wilderness with a stone beneath his head, Jacob discovers that the place most would call empty and unusable is filled with the presence of God.

This week in worship, we explored exhaustion, striving, and the surprising nearness of God in seasons of transition and uncertainty.

Sooner or later, night falls on us all.

There are seasons when the plans we've made and the things we've relied upon can no longer hold us together. Seasons when we realize we're exhausted from trying to secure a future we cannot control.

In Genesis 28, Jacob reaches a similar level of exhaustion. Alone in the wilderness, worn out from running and striving, he falls asleep with a rock for a pillow. And it is there, in the place most would consider empty and unusable, that he discovers the presence and peace of God.

Join us at 10:30 am this morning as we explore what it means to find rest, grace, and God's presence in seasons of transition, grief, or uncertainty.

“Do not give up meeting together…”

Hebrews 10 is often interpreted as a command about church attendance, but perhaps the author is speaking to something deeper. Written to people living in an uncertain in-between season, these words remind us that isolation weakens courage while hope is sustained in community.

This message reflects on how the early church stayed together, how the Holy Spirit formed fearful people into a hopeful people, and what it means for us to draw near to God and encourage one another today.

The Day of Pentecost began with an uncertain group of believers gathered “all together in one place.” Then came the wind. Then came the fire. Then came the Holy Spirit.

This Sunday, we’ll explore how the Spirit forms ordinary people into a hopeful community that draws near to God, encourages one another, and holds on to hope together, even in uncertain seasons.

Maybe the gifts of the Spirit are not only dramatic moments of power, but also the quieter gifts that sustain the church every day: nearness, humility, hope, love, encouragement, and the courage to keep showing up for one another.

Join us this Sunday at 10:30 am as we worship the God who still breathes life into unsettled people and gathers them together in Christ.

We live in a world constantly asking for our attention, our allegiance, and ultimately, our trust.

Little by little, it becomes easy to hand our peace, identity, and hope over to things that promise stability but can't satisfy our longing.

This week, we explored the breathtaking vision of Christ in Colossians 1 that sings about the One who is before all things, above all things, and the One in whom all things hold together.

If you’ve been feeling unsettled, anxious, exhausted, or overwhelmed lately, we hope this message reminds you that your life is not held together by politics, possessions, identity, or control, but by Christ alone.

What happens when our vision of Jesus becomes too small?

In uncertain times, it’s easy to hand our hope, identity, and peace over to things that promise stability but were never meant to carry that kind of weight. Little by little, the voices around us begin shaping the way we see the world, ourselves, and even what matters most.

This Sunday, we’ll talk about what it means to trust the One who is before all things, above all things, and the One in whom all things hold together.

If life feels unsteady right now, this message is for you. We’d love to worship with you this Sunday at 10:30 am.

We are blessed with incredible lay leadership at our church. This worship service at a senior living facility that I had the privilege of serving Holy Communion at today while one of our members preached a great message from the Beatitudes is just one of many ways they serve others.

What do you do when everything feels unsteady?

In Psalm 62, the psalmist describes life like a “leaning wall” or a “tottering fence,” and honestly, that image feels painfully familiar. We spend so much of our lives trying to steady what feels like it’s about to fall apart: our relationships, our security, our future, even ourselves.

But what if peace is not found in our ability to hold everything together?

This week, we reflected on the God who meets us in the middle of chaos, striving, suffering, and sin with steadfast love and strength. In Christ, we are given refuge, rest, and hope for weary souls.

There are times when life feels relentlessly loud.

The pressure keeps building. The ground beneath your feet never quite feels steady. And after a while, you stop looking for rest and simply learn how to brace yourself.

But in the middle of all that noise, the author of Psalm 62 says something unexpected: “For God alone my soul waits in silence.”

This Sunday, we’ll reflect on the God who meets weary and unsteady hearts with steadfast love, quiet strength, and rest for our souls.

We spend so much of our lives trying to hold everything together.

When the ground beneath us feels unsteady, our instinct is to brace ourselves, push harder, and keep striving.

But what if the peace our souls long for is not found in frantic activity, but in quiet rest before God?

This Sunday at 10:30 am, we’ll reflect on Psalm 62 and the God whose steadfast love and strength hold us when life begins to shift beneath our feet.
