‘’On June 17th 2013 at 11:30am I was traveling from White Marl to Half Way Tree on my motorbike; I am a bearer who was on company business. As I approached Calvary, a gentleman driving a pick-up pulled out suddenly and hit the bike I was riding; he was using his cellphone. The impact threw me in the air along with the bike. The helmet I was wearing flew from my head as it wasn’t strapped tightly under my chin. I hit the ground like a tornado and broke my hand. My head banged into a pole; the cap of my head came off; an inch of my brain and marrows followed. I was still conscious and could hear persons around me saying ‘he is dead, he is dead!’ A lady took up the cap of my head and placed it carefully in the palm of my hand. I was rushed to the hospital by the driver who hit me…I was still conscious. When I got to the hospital a porter who was obviously in shock from seeing my condition...from seeing the marrows shouted, ‘ah weh yuh get dah dead goat ya from?’ I instantly lost consciousness….
My skull was fractured in five places. There was no space for the brain to breathe. I was admitted to the hospital for over two months…unable to talk… I knew no one; knew nothing. I wore diapers. A quarter of my head was gone. It looked scary. I spent over four months recovering. The pain I felt was not normal. My employers took very good care of me. They had the doctors create a new skull so I can look normal again…It is amazing.
When I look back at that day, look at the pole that I slammed my head into, I am thankful for life. My head formed an imprint into that pole… God was not ready for me. I am grateful to the almighty one above for sparing my life, to the doctors, to my family and friends, especially the mother of my children. My work family supported me so much. They took care of my family while I was laying in the hospital. I am a backslider but this accident has brought me back to God. I will never take life for granted anymore…never.”
