Today is the feast of St. Pope John Paul II. St. Pope John Paul II was enormously influential during his lifetime, as well as living a very colorful life: he acted, he was a sportsman who loved hiking and skiing, studied to become a priest in secret during the N**i occupation of Poland in WWII, he survived an assassination attempt in the 1980's - and is credited with being one of the instigators of the fall of Communism in Europe. He did many influential writings and speeches, including a series of talks that became the work "The Theology of the Body" - which informs many modern writings and teachings on the sacramentality of marriage.

(Some Trivia: St. Pope John Paul II is also widely mis-credited with having given a papal blessing to the Pokémon card game. Interestingly, though, the Vatican at the time did investigate the game - and wound up pronouncing it "full of imagination" and "harmless").

St. Pope John Paul II was canonized in 2014, and is the co-patron saint of World Youth Day (having helped create the event) as well as Young Catholics and Families. (He could also reasonably be invoked by sportsmen!)

Pardon our progress! 👷‍♂️🪏 The hard-working gentlemen of the Building and Maintenance volunteer crew spent a good portion of the day fixing the blocks surrounding the tree in our parking lot (which has been gradually getting knocked out of shape and collapsing on itself for some time). We look forward to the new and improved shape of the thing, and thank our volunteers for their great work! (And thanks to St. Joseph for supervising! 😉)
