With humble acceptance of God's will, we announce the passing of Joe Yates, the beloved husband of our sister in Christ, Rita Yates. Joe was a dedicated servant of Christ, and we fondly remember the countless moments he spent serving, worshiping, and fellowshipping alongside Rita. He touched the lives of many and will forever remain in our hearts.

One cherished memory we hold dear is his joy at the ice cream social, indulging in Java Joe's ice cream 🍨. Please join us in keeping Rita and the family in your prayers during this difficult time. Visitation for Joe will be held on Tuesday evening, followed by his funeral service on Wednesday at St. Rose.🙏🙏🙏

We lift the Campbell family in love and prayers. Mrs Norma Jean Campbell, our sister in Christ, passed earlier this week. Her services will be at Carey and Sons. Ms. Norma Jean was an active member not only in our community but active in our congregation until just a few years ago. Ms. Norma Jean was an enthusiastic participant in the Methodist Church throughout her life and was deeply involved in its activities. In more recent years, she dedicated her time and efforts to working with children within the church, aiming to nurture their spiritual growth, provide guidance, and create a supportive community for everyone who entered the church.

"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue." – Proverbs 31:25

We will be suspending posts on this page. We hope that we can come together again at some time. The church is closed for worship and the Bluegrass district is maintaining membership records. We will continue to pray for each of you, Springfield, Washington County and the United Methodist Church.

Thank you Springfield and Washington County for supporting the Springfield United Methodist Church. Tonight's closing service was touching and meaningful to all the families that have been a blessing to our church.

Remember, the building is not a church, it's the people who worship together. Also, remember what we have each been commissioned as believers in Christ as it was written in Matthew, "saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18‭-‬20 NASB2020

"When we think of “spending time in the Word,” we often think of merely reading the Bible. And while studying Scripture is important, it should always drive us to a deeper relationship with Jesus. Today, let your time in the Word drive you to spend time with the Word. Talk to Him. Invite Him to speak into your life right now. And then listen to the Word."

“A voice of one calling: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.’” — Isaiah 40:3–5

Worship with us on this Second Sunday of Advent.

God wanted His people to be ready for the coming Messiah, so He sent prophets throughout history to remind them to prepare their hearts. He also sent John the Baptist to prepare the people for Jesus’ coming. How can we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus?

"When he [King Herod] had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born." Matthew 2:4

"Christ” is the Greek translation of the Hebrew term Messiah, which means “the Anointed One.”3 In Old Testament times, anointing signified being set aside for service, particularly as a king or priest. Jesus came not as an anointed one but as the Anointed One, both King and Priest, set apart not by any man but by God Himself.

Messiah means the long-awaited God-anointed Ruler, who would overcome all other rule, and bring in the end of history, and establish the kingdom of God and never die or lose his reign.

Jesus didn't meet anyone's expectations...he came as a baby in a manger. He didn't come with an army to crush Rome and free the Jews from oppression. He was even rejected by his own people.

"Jesus was God’s answer to Israel’s prayers; He was the Messiah, but they rejected Him. “He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:11–12). So gratefully we celebrate Him as the Christ, the Anointed One not just for Israel, but for all humankind who believe in Him."

We are so blessed to celebrate the Messiah's birth and his resurrection. How have honored and worshipped Christ, the Messiah, today? How do you set Christ above the busyness of the season?

People are stringing up lights on their homes. Trees are adorned with twinkling lights. Candles are lit in the homes. At Christmas it seems there are lights everywhere.

But light isn't everywhere, people still live in darkness. People still live in sin. People are lost to all the goodness around them because they don't know Jesus.

John described Jesus as "The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world." (John 1:9). "Therefore it comes as no surprise that Jesus assumes this title: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12)."

"As Jesus is the Light of the World, so He sends us as lights into the world to illuminate our surroundings with His love and life. Just as the moon reflects the sun’s light, so we also reflect Jesus’ light, loving our families and our neighbors, serving our church and community with our spiritual gifts, and sharing truth in love in a bleak world. Jesus, the Light of the World, has placed us in a particular time and place in history, in the lives of specific people, within a specific place to shine brightly for Him, holding forth the Word of life in a million different little ways (Phil. 2:14–16). We carry His light within us, and those who see it cannot help but be attracted to the Light. The True Light desires to give light to everyone; and what’s more amazing, He wants to use us, His people, to spread that light."

Today, BE HIS LIGHT!

The wise men coming to King Herod asked at Jesus' birth "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him." (Matthew 2:2.)

As Jesus entered Jerusalem for Passover, the people shouted, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” (Luke 19:38).

When Jesus was crucified, Pontius Pilate had it written on a sign hung on the cross, INRI, King of the Jews. According to Luke Pilate had King of the Jews written in three languages:. Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. "Latin was the official language of Rome; it represented human government, power, and conquest. Greek was the international language of culture; it represented human wisdom, art, and commerce. Hebrew was the religious language of the Jews; it represented the Covenant Race, the Law of God, and the means by which God made Himself known to man."

John tells us of the present reality in heaven: “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” (Rev. 19:16).

When Queen Elizabeth II died, we recently seen how an earthly crown was then given to the heir, Prince Charles. People celebrated her life. People mourned and honored her life.

Jesus was King at his birth as the wise men recognized him. Jesus was celebrated as King in life by some of the people in Jerusalem. Jesus was King at his death as a powerful empire recognized him. And Jesus still reigns as King in Heaven. Jesus will be King upon his return.

Don't idolize earthly kings and celebrities that will fade away. Don't lose focus on who our true King is. Celebrate and honor our Heavenly King today as He has chosen you to be his hier to the throne. How wonderful it is to celebrate and remember his birth this holiday season.

When we hear of Jesus and the resurrection, we think of Easter and not necessarily Advent. But Jesus resurrection brings each of us hope. "For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, through perseverance we wait eagerly for it."
Romans 8:24‭-‬25

The resurrection of life and death is in Christ. He not only died on the cross for our sins but He rose from the dead by His own authority.

In John 14:19, Jesus says, "Because I live, you will also live". Time and time again Jesus shows us and teaches us of a resurrected life. How many resurrections are noted in the New Testament?

Resurrection is our reality each and every day. We only have to believe He lives. This is not past tense but present. He lives today!

Do you believe? What does it mean to live a resurrected life every day?
