Saint Bernadette Youth

Saint Bernadette Youth If you're a high schooler in the Springfield (or Alexandria, or Annandale) area, we'd like to invite It's held roughly every other Sunday night from 7-9pm.

====================================
"I'd like to come see what the youth ministry is like - where should I go?"
====================================

LARGE GROUP is usually your first first-stop with CYO. We start out with some high-energy games to loosen up and settle in (dodgeball, glow-in-the-dark ultimate frisbee, Mission Impossible, etc.). After that, we have a short talk aimed at offering a

fresh perspective on the adventure of following Jesus as Catholics. Finally, there's time at the end to eat pizza and hang out in our youth room, which has a pool table, air hockey, and board games! OASIS might be a good spot for you if you're a little more low-key or you really like music. It's held once a month on Sundays from 7-9pm. The first hour is spent singing Praise & Worship music in the St. B's Chapel, where we have Eucharistic Adoration and the opportunity for confessions. The second hour is in our youth room, hanging out and usually playing games (like Apples to Apples, or Taboo, or shooting pool). SMALL GROUPS meet for 2 hours each week on various weeknights. If you're the type that says, "Enough with the fluff, I want to go deep!" then take the plunge with a small group! Small groups are discussion-based and aim to really dive into the nitty gritty of faith in everyday life. GIRLS,contact Kara ([email protected]), or GUYS, contact Stephen ([email protected]) to come try out a small group!

A Special Update from Kara...

Dear St. Bernadette teens, youth workers, and families,

Happy Easter! I hope you all have been experiencing the true joy of our Lord’s resurrection this week.

I am sorry to share that I will be leaving my position of Director of Youth Ministry effective the end of April. This decision did not come easily but after much prayer, my husband and I are at peace knowing that the Lord has new things in store for our family. I am hopeful to find opportunities that will allow me to stay home full-time with my daughter, Bella, in this next season of life. With that said, I am confident that God has His hand in this ministry and will continue to do incredible work in the hearts of our young people and the parish.

It has been such a blessing the past (almost) 4 years getting to know each of you and walking in the faith together. St. Bernadette will always have a special place in our hearts especially as it is the parish that our daughter, Bella, was baptized in. As we have recently moved to Woodbridge, it is time for us to move on to a new parish community but look forward to staying connected in other ways throughout the diocese.

Please know that I will be staying on to finish out the year in leading our ministry small groups and RE classes. I will be present in those capacities until June so this is not goodbye yet! I hope to say proper goodbyes over the next couple of months.

Thank you all for your incredible support and understanding. Please keep Fr. Don, Rick, and Stephen in your prayers as they begin searching for my replacement. Please also begin praying for the new Director of Youth Ministry! While no one has been hired yet, it is all in God’s plans and we can only pray that everyone’s hearts are open to His will.

In Him,
Kara Lilly

There can be a lot of good things that make up our life- sports, friends, relationships, school, etc., but do we allow it to occupy it? Do we find ourselves just squeezing God in when it's convenient? How can we create more space for God to occupy our hearts and bring life to what we do? Maybe start by beginning and ending each day with the sign of the cross and say "Everything is for you God, may this day glorify you." or "Praise be to Jesus, now and forever." God wants more than a tiny piece of our hearts, we wants all of it, let's start today!
