A great feast is coming to the earth, unlike any other, one which unites Heaven with Earth, in celebration of God’s great victory – a victory in part over death, a victory over the world system that opposed and exalted itself over the earth in defiance to God, and over Satan and demonic powers, who are temporarily imprisoned. How appropriate to feast these victories! Food and fellowship create lasting memories and immortalize great victories.
Every salvation occurrence is a victory. How well I recall the fellowship feast in my grandmother Annie King's kitchen, and how it became a place of fellowship and food, after the wonder and joy of her conversion to Christ well into her sixties, when she came to know God personally. Her kitchen, where so many common meals had been prepared became a holy place to unite around coffee and fresh baked cookies, and it became a special time for worship for the family, a place to memorialize salvation to the King family.
Likewise, missionary Charlie Smith, who spent himself for the poor of Honduras, believed that sharing food or even a cup of coffee with others brought unity to the people of God, and spiritual experience. He travelled in Honduras, to some of the poorest starving villages on earth, and shared food ahead of bringing grace. His life with others around food, was a love feast, and his Honduran brothers and sisters loved him.
Jesus looked forward to the day He would be with us in a love feast in The Millennial Kingdom to memorialize His victory. He said:
"For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God. . .. I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes . . . until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom."
And note the words of Matthew 26:29 “…until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” These are words of pure joy and fellowship – it is His Father’s kingdom, long awaited, the focus of Jesus attention, hope and joy. The King will reign! The food will be good at the feast, but the joy and rejoicing and the fullness of the Holy Spirit will be the greatest. The Lord Jesus will be full of joy as will His Bride and let all the earth rejoice.
