You Are Chosen 8/22/26
1 Samuel 16:1–13 | Pastor Jimmy O. Terry

God does not always choose the person others expect, but He always sees what others cannot. When Samuel was sent to Jesse’s house, God reminded him that He looks beyond outward appearance and sees the heart. David was overlooked by others, but he was not overlooked by God. He was chosen, anointed, and called for a purpose. Like David, each of us have a purpose and are called to serve, then lead.

This week, Pastor Jimmy challenged us to Lead, Listen, and Line-Up. When we know we are chosen by God, we can lead with courage, listen for His voice, and line our lives up with His will - even when others fail to recognize what God has placed within us.

Where is God calling you to lead, listen, or line-up in this season, and what would change if you fully embraced the truth that you are chosen by God?

This morning, our Christian Education Ministry had the privilege of serving George Herbert Flowers High School during their orientation. We provided pastries, fresh fruit, juice, and water for the parents, youth, and administrators as they entered and prepared for the new school year. It was a simple yet meaningful way to extend the love of Christ, encourage our school community, and remind them that our church is committed to supporting our educators and students. Thank you Rev. Shauna and Sis. Beverly for your dedication and commitment to represent “The church with a heart!”

Let’s go beyond the pulpit and take the Word with us!

Title: For Such a Time as This: Dream Big
Text: Genesis 37:1–8;18–20

Joseph’s story reminds us that God can place a dream within us long before we understand how He will bring it to pass. Dreaming big requires courage, responsibility, and humility. This week, reflect on how God is calling you to live beyond your present circumstances and trust Him with what He has placed in your heart. You can do this when you:

1. Face Your Challenges
Joseph’s dream did not prevent him from facing opposition. Challenges are not always signs that we are on the wrong path; sometimes they are part of the preparation. Don’t allow difficulty to make you abandon what God has shown you.

2. Step Up to the Charge
A God-given dream comes with responsibility. Be willing to step forward, grow, serve, and accept the assignment God has placed before you. You cannot experience the fullness of your purpose while remaining comfortable on the sidelines.

3. Give God the Credit
Joseph’s dream was bigger than just himself. His life ultimately demonstrated that what God does through us is for His glory. As you pursue your dreams, remember to keep God at the center and acknowledge that every gift, opportunity, and accomplishment comes from Him.
