Hear This First

Team Jesus requires our best, it deserves our best, and it demands our best. Every player (or coach) on any team knows that poor effort will not produce victories. Well, playing on God’s team is no different. Poor spiritual effort will only lead to spiritual losses.

To play well in the game of life, I needed to give my spiritual head coach everything I had. I needed to put all of my effort into doing what He asked of me as a player on His team. Jesus will never fail and will perfectly do His part as a coach. It was up to me to do my part as a player, which would always require my best effort.

Your Life, a Masterpiece
Purpose is one of those words that people have tossed around so much, especially in Christian circles, that it’s hard to know exactly what it means. Is it this one grand event that unfolds when you’re at the right place at the right time?

Is it something that you are passionate about or what you are naturally skilled at doing? Is it doing something that makes you happy? Does it have anything to do with helping others?

While I’m not a theologian or a Bible expert, I believe that your purpose is intertwined with your identity.

A man named Paul, one of the earliest church missionaries, wrote that we are God’s “workmanship.” The Greek word for “workmanship” is poiema, or “poem.” Think about this. Before you were even born, God wrote a beautiful poem about your life.

This masterpiece is about you doing not just meaningless or average things, but good works, wonderful things that make a difference. This means that you are important, significant. You matter!

When life gets tough, when your relationship starts to fall apart, when the cancer comes back, when you can’t beat the addiction, when your kids are running wild, when your parents are driving you crazy, when you feel stuck in monotony or routine, it’s important to circle back to God’s love and the fact that He has an amazing purpose for your life.

I don’t know what your purpose is. Maybe it’s to become a doctor and help cure cancer. Maybe it’s to be a parent and shepherd your family.

Maybe it’s to become an entrepreneur and partner with a nonprofit organization. It might be to help children all over the world or just your own, one million people or just one.

Regardless of how your life will impact others and what that will look like, I just know that when your identity is grounded in God, when you trust in Him, you become part of a bigger picture. And you begin to live out this wonderful poem He has written for your life.

What evidences do you see that God is already making something beautiful out of your life?

I pray this encourages you today. An excerpt from "The Bible on Business"

Bad Math

Many of us have been taught bad math.

We’ve learned two formulas in particular which lead to a lack of clarity about what God wants to do in and through us.

We’ve learned that “Great Commission = clergy” and “professional = laity.”

The almost inevitable result of this bad math is to think the people who hold real value in God’s eyes are the clergy, the fulltime religious workers. After all, we are told, they are all about “the Lord’s work,” and they serve Him in “fulltime ministry.”

The flipside of our conclusion is that, sure, laypeople have some value, but it’s more about the money they make (and give as tithes and offerings) or the abilities they have (“hey, would you be interested in teaching a Sunday school class?”).

But that’s not what the Bible teaches! Look at what Peter writes in 1 Pet. 2:9, and then get ready to jump for joy (out of your plush leather executive chair, or off of your factory floor, or... well, you get my point). Did you read it? If you are not jumping for joy, maybe I can help.

The “you” Peter calls chosen and royal and holy and belonging to God are not clergy. They are laity! He is writing about the whole body of Christ, not just a select few. In other words, the “you” is YOU! You the business professional! God has chosen YOU to proclaim His excellencies.

The calling and privilege is not merely reserved for a few fulltime religious workers. It’s for teachers and doctors and engineers and lawyers and entrepreneurs and business people. It’s for YOU!

Have you considered how you can best leverage your job, your skills, your career, your company for the sake of God’s glory among your neighbors and among the nations?

Today's word: Stress

I admit it. I am a type A personality. I internalize a lot and put pressure on myself to strive to be the best. While some of that is good, some is not. It's stressful! Starting a business is HARD WORK. I mean hard. It means infrastructure, taxes, websites, banking, PO boxes, and networking. A lot of networking. When we started Crusader Ranch, it was a ton of work on top of my other 2 jobs. I was constantly stressed. During that time, I prayed that God bless the work He called me to do, that He help me through this season of pressure. He did! He directed my steps (Proverbs 3:6) and we were successful in getting it off the ground.

Reading this scripture today reminded me of how faithful our God is!!! He never gives us anything we can't handle. When we "humble ourselves, He lifts us up" (James 4:10). So friends whatever your going through, remember God has a purpose for your life. Give it to Him, do your best and He will bless it.

May He bless you today!!
