These are some of the fruits of our parish. Undoubtedly, there are many more wonderful fruits that are not documented and we give thanks to God for those! It's beautiful to see how God's grace is at work in the lives of our parishioners. We still have more baptisms, our 1st communions, confirmations, and summer weddings coming up!

Thank you for supporting us in our mission and for being a part of it! We have a wonderful team of staff, volunteers, and parishioners who are dedicated to advancing our mission. Thanks be to God for the blessings He continues to pour out upon us.

Our Mission: Santa Sophia Parish fosters a Catholic culture of invitation, belonging, and mentorship which serves as a bridge to encountering Jesus Christ and making the choice to live as His disciple so to fulfill His call to remain in Him through prayer, teaching, service, and loving as He has loved us.

What an incredible blessing to celebrate the Easter Vigil this evening. Our good Lord worked beautifully in so many souls as He poured out His grace. In particular, 16 were baptized, 6 received into communion with the Catholic Church, 25 Confirmed, all received the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. Thank you to all our amazing and dedicated staff and volunteers who gave of their time, talent, and treasure and helped us all to be a bridge to Christ. It was beautiful to see the smiles on the faces of the newly baptized as they received this sacrament and the tears on their faces after they received our Eucharistic Lord. To God be all the glory, now and for ever! Jesus has risen, just as He said He would. He is faithful, living, and active in our lives.

On Good Friday, we reflect in the liturgy on the Holy Cross of our Lord Jesus, which held the weight of His sacred Body and was stained with His precious Blood. Upon the wood of the Holy Cross hung the salvation of the whole world. Consider how the God-man’s offering of Himself in sacrifice redeemed every human soul. Let it sink in that this is the cost of every human soul — the Son of God the Father offering His life in sacrifice. We understand more deeply how valuable every human life is in the light of the Holy Cross. How do I honor this sacrifice in my daily living? How do I share this message of Christ crucified with those who have never heard of such divine mercy and love? Let us live for Him who has died for us.

A very beautiful beginning to the sacred Triduum at Santa Sophia. During our celebration of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, our parish solemnly received the holy oils during the procession which were blessed at the Chrism Mass last week with bishop Michael Pham and the priests of the Diocese of San Diego — the Oil of the Sick, the Oil of the Catechumens, and the Sacred Chrism. Following the homily, we watched as 12 men from our parish community had their feet washed by the priest celebrant — a powerful reminder of Jesus’ humble example at the Last Supper and call to fraternal charity. Then we beheld the beautiful moment of consecration, when heaven kisses earth, as Our Lord Jesus is made truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, the same Eucharist He shared with his band of disciples at the Last Supper. Finally, we participated in a solemn procession with our Eucharistic Lord to the altar of repose as the Pange Lingua was sung — reminiscent of how our Lord after supper sang a psalm, and then went to the mount of Olives to pray and enter into His saving passion.
