WORSHIP SERVICE — SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2026
“Good morning, SLCRC. This week we will finish our series on the 10 Commandments as we look at Jesus’ summing up of the Law in Mark 12:28-34. An inquisitive scribe, more than likely a Pharisee, asks Jesus which commandment is the most important of them all. Jesus answers and impresses everyone there, especially this teacher of the law. Jesus’ answer is historically accurate, in line with their (Jewish) traditions and simply states what one must strive to live into God’s will and follow Jesus as His disciple. Jesus helps everyone there, and us, realize our default position is always to be one of love. Love for God and love for our neighbor. Working hard to love God with our whole being and to love those around us as we would like to be loved is a good way to stay aligned with the Commandments and is God’s desire for His church and children. “Good morning, SLCRC. May this note find you joyful and doing well, excited about the path of God's will that lies before you today. This week Sunday our discussion will center around the 9th Commandment: "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor”. While this commandment definitely has a legal bent, we will also discuss how it applies to living in community with each other. Q&A 112 of the Heidelberg Catechism will help us name many of the behaviors that fall under the umbrella of this commandment, while Psalm 15 will help us realize that obeying this commandment, and all the rest of the 10 Commandments, is a matter of character and integrity. Our lives of faith require hard work and great effort at times, but the more we learn and rely on God's help, the better it will be. “Hello SLCRC, I hope my words this morning find you at peace in the knowledge of God's love for you in Christ Jesus. May we all remember that we are forgiven and free in Christ, and that our lives are lived in gratitude for this fact. When we gather this Sunday, we will continue our series on the 10 Commandments by discussing the 8th Commandment: "You shall not steal." Questions and answers 110 & 111 of the Heidelberg Catechism will again teach us the scope of the commandment, and all the ways we can break it. Luke 16:1-15 "The Parable of the Shrewd Manager" will teach us that we have a responsibility to handle well the wealth and resources God gives us, as well as, the outward focus we are to take with our money and possessions. Our wealth, like many things, is best used in the service of others and to honor God. Join us this Sunday at 10:00 am and we'll talk more about it! See you all then!” – Pastor Brent

“Hello SLCRC, I hope this day finds you healthy, happy and fully aware of God's love for you. May His will for your life be clearer today than ever before. This week our discussion will center around the 7th Commandment, "You shall not commit adultery." For some, this sin has not significantly affected their lives, but for others, the pain and shame adultery causes are all too real. The sin of lust, which is at the heart of adultery, is a struggle for every one of us on some level. We will discuss how the scope of the 7th Commandment calls us to this reality, how the Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 108-109 illustrate this for us, and that God through Paul's words in 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 commands lives of physical purity for his children. The problem of lust is pervasive, and we could all use a little help fighting against it. Please join us Sunday at 10:00 a.m. to be encouraged in this fight. See you then!”

WORSHIP SERVICE — SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 2026
“This week we tackle the 6th Commandment, "You shall not murder.". Now, I would think this would be one of those commandments that is very easy for all of us to follow. None of us have murdered anyone, I hope, and I think most of us go through most days not wanting to murder anyone. But, as Jesus says in Matthew 5:21-22, and Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 105 & 107 concur, simply not murdering people is just the start of what God is requiring of us in the 6th Commandment. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are concerned about things like envy, hatred, anger and vindictiveness which are at the heart of murder. Also, our God wants us to go beyond not hurting or killing others to a place where we love and care for them, and do all we can for their well-being. We will discuss all of this at church this Sunday, so please join us at 10:00 a.m. for a time of worship, learning and fellowship. See you then!” – Pastor Brent

“Hello SLCRC, this Sunday we will be talking about, well, Sunday. We are looking at the 4th Commandment and God's call on his people to participate in regular corporate worship. It would stand to reason that if we are in relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and with each other we could only benefit through gathering together. We'll talk about our legalistic history regarding Sunday observance. Why God has commanded us to gather together every "sabbath". What regular church attendance does for our lives of faith, and our need to prioritize it in our lives and the lives of those we love. Church attendance and taking a day of rest are important. Otherwise, why would God command it? If you would like to hear more about attending church on Sunday, please attend our church this Sunday starting at 10:00am. We would love to meet you! “This week we finally delve into the 10 Commandments themselves as we look at the first commandment: "You shall have no other gods before me". 1 Corinthians 10:1-14, as well as Q&A 94 and 95 of the Heidelberg Catechism will aid us in our discussion. We will discuss how the history of God's people helps us avoid idolatry. Together we will understand our need for vigilance in resisting idolatry, and recognize that our God helps us in our battle against temptation and sin. Please join us this Sunday for worship at 10:00 am if you are able. We would love to see you, and meet you if you're new to SLCRC. Have a great week everyone!”
