Awesome Lord God, thank you for today and all that it holds. Open my eyes to see and my heart to love. Allow your wisdom to fill my mind as I live into today. Fill me with the strength to grab and act on the opportunities to share you and your word with others. Show me ways to comfort others with a smile, a kind word, a small action, or a helping hand. Help me to be your witness to all those I meet in my journey through today and the days to come. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

“Come and See”

“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.
“Come and see,” said Philip. John 1:46 NIV

Philip was excited about meeting Jesus, so he found Nathanael and said, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael then said, “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” I love Philip's answer. He says, “Come and see.” I find it very comforting that Jesus was born in a stable with animals around. That he came from a working family, raised in Nazareth, and yet none of this changed who He truly was. He knew who He was, so his past, environment, parentage, earthly status, rejection, nothing distracted Him from His mission. What about you? Is there something in your past, heritage, upbringing, status, or the way others treated you that is hindering you from believing who you are? If you know Jesus as your Savior, then you are a child of God. Believe it, receive it, and don’t let anything, nothing rob you of your significance or mission for God on this earth. Know who You are. You are a royal child and servant of God. Don’t hold back. Go and invite others to “come and see!”

Father God, thank you that you have made me your child. Thank you that it is not based on status or merit or my earning it. Instead, it is your grace and mercy that have made me your own. Help me to believe and receive your great love for me so I can live out the mission you have for me. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Lord God, you are my God who is constant, never failing, aways present, always faithful. Even when I wander along paths of my own choosing, you gently nudge me back to you. Thank you for your consistent love that never fails. Lord, I pray that you lead me through the guidance of your Holy Spirit. Open my eyes to see the beauty of your creation and not the fallacy of man. Guide me in your paths of righteousness and love. Help me to see ways that I can reach out and love others through a gentle word, a loving touch, a caring smile, or your words of wisdom. Fill me with the strength, wisdom, and understanding to grow into the person you have created me to be. In the name of your Son Jesus I pray, amen.

“Renew My Mind”

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” Romans 12:2 NLT

It is so easy to allow secular thinking to creep into our everyday lives. David Kinniman, the president of the Barna Group, writes that “we live in a society that values fairness over justice, consuming over creating, fame over accomplishment, glamour over character, image over holiness, and entertainment over discernment.” How true. The Kingdom of God has values that are contrary to those embraced by modern society. So, what can we do? The secret, Paul shares, is to allow God to constantly transform us by changing the way we think. As we pray, read the word, and commune with the Holy Spirit, we will begin to see the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control become realities in our lives. Peter shares that as you gradually increase faith, moral excellence, spiritual knowledge, self-control, patient endurance, Godliness, brotherly affection, and love for everyone, you will be more productive and useful in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. So today, examine your life and let God transform you by changing the way you think.

Gracious and loving Lord God, I need your Holy Spirit to help me. I am so vulnerable. It is so easy for me to adopt the world's behavior and customs. Please help renew my mind and make me the person you want me to be. In your name I pray, amen.
