September is Su***de Prevention Month. 💜

It is no secret that we are all human, living a very human existence.

Depression is real. Grief is real. Loneliness is real. Mental health struggles are real. And su***de is real, even within the Church and within the Christian community.

Faith does not make us immune to pain.

As the Church, we must do a better job of caring for one another beyond Sunday morning.

Check on the person who has gotten quiet.

Check on the person you haven’t seen in a while.

Check on the person whose behavior has changed, even when you can’t quite put your finger on what is different.

Check on the person carrying tremendous loss.

Check on the strong friend, too.

Sometimes people are carrying battles we know nothing about, and life can simply be hard.

The Church is so much more than a building. We are called to be community. To notice. To listen without judgment. To love. To reach out. And to be a safe harbor for one another.

You do not have to have all the answers to let someone know they matter.

Every life matters. Every person matters. And no one should have to carry their darkest moments alone.

Sometimes loving God and serving people looks like simply asking:
