Happy Labor Day weekend! What's SHUCC doing?

Just a reminder our food pantry is every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 9am-11am. If you missed it today, the next one will be September 19th. We don't ask for any proof of need. Come as you are.

❤️🤍💙 This 4th of July, let us remember (a truthful) history, acknowledge our current events, and commit to continuing to work toward "Liberty & Justice for ALL."

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is freedom denied.

Today we remember June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in the United States learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. We celebrate the resilience, faith, culture, and contributions of Black Americans, while also acknowledging that the work of justice is not finished.

As people of faith, we are called not only to remember history, but to live into God's vision of a world where every person is treated with dignity, equity, and love.

May this Juneteenth inspire us to continue the work of truth-telling, reconciliation, and liberation for all.

“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Many Christians have been taught to spend their lives worrying about how to get into heaven.

Jesus seemed far more interested in teaching people how to live as if heaven were breaking into the world around them.

He fed hungry people. He healed sick people. He welcomed those society rejected. He challenged religious and political powers that burdened the vulnerable. He spoke of a kingdom where the last would be first and where love of neighbor was inseparable from love of God.

If our faith does not move us to confront injustice, care for those who are suffering, and build communities where every person is treated with dignity, then what exactly are we preparing for?

The Gospel is not an evacuation plan. It is an invitation to participate in God's transformation of the world.

Not someday.
Now.

The prayer Jesus taught is not, "Get us out of here." It is: "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

May we spend less time trying to secure our place in heaven and more time helping our neighbors experience a glimpse of it here on earth.
