Our little faith community of "Christ the Prophet" is not what many might consider a parish. No marble altar. No stained glass windows. No sacristy for getting vested for Mass. Mass is in our home at the dining room table. We Break Bread where we always break bread. Where we have toast and scrambled eggs, or tuna sandwiches, or cajon-style catfish. What we also have as a parish is a "street ministry. And a strong prophetic voice. Whether it is holding a vigil in opposition to an ex*****on or marching with our sisters and brothers in a "Black Lives Matter" demonstration or showing the larger community that the universal, unconditional, and eternal love of God is, always and everywhere, on the side of the poor, the marginalized, the oppressed. That is why we exist. That is our mission. We call it "the Gospel Life". In keeping with that mission, we the Ecumenical Catholic Franciscan parish of "Christ the Prophet" categorically refuse to co-operate, support, or collaborate in any manner whatsoever with the Donald "King Herod" Trump administration in the use of sending soldiers or other militaristic agents out into the streets or into the homes or workplaces or sacred spaces (like our parish) of those who are strangers in this land. We don't have a sanctuary any more than we have stained glass windows. "Sanctuary", for us, is a verb. Something we can do and will do. Paz y Bien!
