Historic St. John’s Lutheran Church
On March 18, 1900, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized with seven member families. A year later, the first church and school building was dedicated on March 17, 1901. This facility would serve the church on 3rd & Division for the next half century. On May 20, 1951, the rebuilt downtown facility (pictured above) was dedicated, and St. John’s downtown ministry would continue here for the 56 years.
In 2007, driven my a desire for a fresh, fruitful ministry in a growing area of town, St. John’s sold their downtown facility, and purchased acreage on Meadowlane Road, in South Spokane’s Latah Valley. The current facility was opened there in 2010, with the launching of worship services in the sanctuary, and the new ministry of Meadowlane Christian School.St. Joh
On July 14, 2019, Bill Hartley was installed as the 12th pastor of historic St. John’s Lutheran Church. Both the church and Meadowlane Christian School are uniquely poised for the ministry ahead -- not only to the rapidly growing residential community of the Latah Valley, but also to downtown Spokane (we remain the church geographically closest to downtown), and to the great Spokane area in general. Working with seven other LCMS churches in the city, expectations are high, the vision is clear, and the power has been promised for a dynamic gospel ministry to this great city! Thanks for your prayers.
