Spokane Bible Church

Spokane Bible Church Spokane Bible Church is a local independent Bible church. Spokane Bible Church is an independent Evangelical local church. The Bible is God's word.

We believe Jesus Christ, God Incarnate, paid the full penalty for man's sin when He died on the cross of Calvary. Any person, in simple faith (faith alone in Christ alone), trusting in the risen Christ as his or her only hope of heaven, refusing to trust in anything else, receives the gift of eternal life, which, once granted, can never be lost. We desire to teach the Bible, encourage each other i

n the faith, and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. It reveals God, His gracious gift of eternal life through the death of His Son, the wonderful blessings that God has given to believers, how to live the Christian way of life, the future, and many other biblical truths. Our services center on the teaching of the Bible. Bible classes include verse by verse studies of the Word and doctrinal categories. Our beliefs for the future times include a pre-tribulation rapture. We believe in dispensational theology. Study of the Word will enable believers to live the Christian way of life. We enjoy expressing our faith to God and to each other through music. We seek to fellowship and encourage each other when the church meets through Bible classes, prayer, social events, Bible conferences, and contacts throughout the week. We seek to spread the message of Christ through children's Bible clubs, Bible classes in homes, through missionary support, and through day-to-day communication with others about Christ's offer of eternal life.

Romans 45
Israel's Future Reception 11:16-27

SBC Family,

This is part 2 of the olive tree illustration. It is very controversial and very interesting. I love this passage. I look forward to teaching it tonight and trying to clarify and expound its contents.

We were off last week, so a bit of review is in store. I look forward to seeing you.

See the attached.

Yours,
Jeremy

Romans 44
Israel's Future Reception
Romans 11:11-27

Spokane Bible Church Family,

Excited about tonight's lesson. We will get into the Olive Tree of Romans 11. But the context before that is very important. It leads in and sets the description of the future. Other things like the firstfruits and lump are also important. There are as many views as there are commentators. It is very interesting. I had someone tell me once that they quit going to the church I was pastoring because, "I didn't teach like Jesus." I asked what they meant. They said "Jesus taught in parables." 🤣 I said, Jesus had two stages of His ministry. The early stage is public and straightforward teaching. The second stage is private and in parables. In between those two stages is when the leadership of Israel rejected Him.

The point of the parables was so "seeing they would not see, hearing they would not hear." It was not a blessing for those who did not believe but a curse, that they would fill the cup of judgment. The strange thing is that a Christian 2000 years later would want me to teach in parables. All I've seen with Jesus' parables and the NT author's illustrations in the commentaries is that NO ONE agrees what they mean. It's really wild. I'm sure they were all "doing their best."

I'm not saying I know exactly what the firstfruits, lump, root, and branches mean tonight, but I will do my best to prayerfully and exegetically get it right. The overall thrust is not that difficult to understand, so hopefully that will be the main thrust of the message. It is a great story that God is telling. My prayer is that we are following His storyline.

Yours,
Jeremy

Romans 43
The Present Believing Remnant of Israel
Romans 11:1-10

Spokane Bible Family,

I have been looking forward to getting through Romans 9-11, and we are now moving into Romans 11. This is the most important NT chapter on Israel and God's future for Israel. Of course, it is controversial.

It's important to read through the whole of Romans 9-11 to see the whole picture, and we are working through piece by piece. As we come toward the end we will put the pieces back together more and more. There's definite movement as you work your way through. These categories aren't perfect, but they show the movement:

Israel's Past Election (9:1-23)
Israel's Present Rejection (9:24-11:10)
Israel's Future Reception (11:11-36)

Israel is so controversial in the national/ethnic sense. A lot of theologians claim the OT storyline changes in the NT. This is a major problem in Christianity. There are no storyline changes. The OT paints the same storyline repeatedly:

*God makes a covenant with Israel promising ultimate blessing
*God makes a covenant with Israel promising blessing for obedience and cursing for disobedience
*Israel disobeys God and God curses Israel
*God restores Israel to ultimate blessing

Each of these features is not detailed in Romans 9-11, but what is there is consistent with that storyline. Yet, many theologians say the storyline changes and now Jews and Gentiles who believe are Israel. If this is the case, it is a storyline change, but if God has changed the storyline, then God's promises are no longer promises.

It's amazing how far people will go to change the storyline of the Bible to fit their theology.

Blessings to you, strength in the Lord, He's coming again, see the attached notes.
