10 years ago Kaowasaki SayChin, Tanya Claiborne, and Jason Amber Verduzco moved to Spokane to plant Vineyard 509. They were filled with passion, a dream, and a desire to do what they saw Jesus doing. Now, they would be the first to say they had no idea how to do this thing called “church planting”, however, they knew how to do real community. They began to invite people to live life with them.
Doing “real” community is hard! It is messy! It’s full of ups and downs. It’s actually easier to leave community than to actually stay in relationship.
During this time, Vineyard 509 prayed for Spokane, held BBQ’s, served the community, prayed for physical healings, prayed for wombs to open, camped together, laughed together, cried together, and buried a dear sister together.
There are so many things to say, so many memories to share, so many things to be grateful for. We worshipped our hearts out. This is what drew us all together. We desired family over organized religion.
We hoped and prayed that this would go on forever. However, there are seasons to life.
“a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance…”
Thank you to all of you who have been a part of this journey. It has been an honor to live life with you. What a decade it has been. All of us are better because of one another!
The first Vineyard church was planted in Spokane in the late 90’s. Then another in the mid 2000’s. Then, Vineyard 509 in 2013. Each of these Vineyard churches fulfilled their season God called them to. There are people all over the Spokane region that have experienced Jesus in these churches.
While Vineyard 509’s season has come to an end, God is not finished using Vineyard churches in Spokane. We look forward to the next Vineyard church that is planted in Spokane. Until then… peace be with you!
