Here's an encouraging article for parents with small children.

Young families have some good reasons to stay home on Sunday morning. But we have even better reasons to gather the kids, pile in the car, and see God’s people face to face.

What a wonderful thing to meditate on as we embark on a new year.

"There is a kind of honoring that we freely and graciously bestow on the undeserving. We treat them better than they deserve. We assume the position toward them of servants. And thus, in a way, we exalt them as though they were worthy to be served, when, in fact, they’re not worthy to be served." - John Piper

God calls his people to show honor to everyone — but not for the same reasons, and not in the same ways.

"Yet some of us, for one reason or another, embrace the bigness of God and his mission without likewise embracing his love for the small. And then, finding ourselves unable to escape the small, we can begin to chafe and mutter. We are big dreamers hemmed in, behind and before, by a small job, small church, small town, small life."-Scott Hubbard

Christians worship a big God with a big mission. Yet for all of his bigness, our God has a remarkable love for the small.

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks r...

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. (Matt. 7:7–8)
These unblushing promises are meant to encourage us to pray.
But they also raise an obvious question. How do we explain it when we’ve asked, but it sure doesn’t seem like we’ve received? We’ve sought, but we haven’t yet found. We’ve knocked, and the door is still shut. How do we explain unanswered prayers given Jesus’s claim that 'everyone who asks receives'?" -Justin Dillehay

How do we explain it when we’ve knocked but the door remains shut?

"The question is not whether our bodies are healed because of the atonement of Christ, but when." - Sam Storms

The question is not whether our bodies receive healing because of Christ’s atonement, but when.

"Some don’t quite believe me. They think I want Jesus to come back so I can jump out of my wheelchair and walk again. Although at one time that was true, decades of leaning on Jesus in my suffering have driven my longings for heaven deeper. A glorified body will be nice, but I want a pure heart. I want to be holy." -Joni Eareckson Tada

We will not endure earthly suffering if we do not love how that suffering, when experienced in faith, is preparing us for another world.

"The problem with Job’s comforters isn’t that they’re heretics. Much of what they say is true. The problem is the moralistic worldview that governs their engagement with Job, and compels them to reason backward from suffering to sin." - Gavin Ortland

Gavin Ortlund gives four ways Christians often say the wrong thing too soon to those suffering.

"Spiritual adornment is the reality. Physical adornment is the symbol of that reality. Our external clothing is of secondary importance, yet it is not inconsequential, for it bears witness to our spiritual clothing." - Mary A. Kassian

Biblical modesty is not about restricting female freedom. It is about clothing our bodies as we clothe our hearts. Modesty is inner godliness made manifest.

"Jesus went to the outcasts, and we are called to do the same. James 2:1–7 resolutely condemns showing partiality toward the rich—in other words, the in-group. The rich need Jesus as much as the poor. Jesus doesn’t call you to associate with the lowly and to avoid the rich. Instead, he calls us all to impartiality.

The application is simple: make it your goal to associate with the lowly. Who are the outcasts in your community? Who is overlooked? And when are they coming over for dinner?" - Joel Kurz
