The Adopted Church - Spokane

The Adopted Church - Spokane Welcome to the Adopted Church! Please join us at 10am on Sundays for worship, prayer, and a message from the Word. We view ourselves as a family.

Our Mission Statement
Reverend Riley Palmer

- Why do we insist on the name Adopted Church? We are primarily the Family of God. We are the Church. Adopted families are different from other kinds of families. They are not tied together by blood relations, or a common ancestry. They are bound together by Spirit. The Adopted Church means to be a family full of different people who all belong to the S

pirit of God, and are bound to one another by His grace. Scripturally, there is plenty of weight behind this name. Jesus was adopted into the human family by His father Joseph. The human race has been adopted by God through Jesus. The Bible tells us that as we receive salvation and the work of the Spirit, our hearts cry out to God as our Father (Galatians 4, Ephesians 1). We seek to be the kind of people who respond to God’s adoption. Adopted family members often look very different from one another. We embrace the many different physical and spiritual heritages we have, and know that God has called us to care and serve one another. We claim the name “Adopted Church” because we care for one another as family. We also love to bring people in, and be the family to belong to. Furthermore, we hope that one day all Christians will be able to adopt one another beyond denominational or tribal borders.

- What is the mission or purpose of the Adopted Church? Our mission and purpose is to produce martyrs. The Adopted church exists to be the Family of God. We are the Bride of Christ, the Body of Christ. Our purpose is a relationship, and not a task: our purpose is people. The Adopted Church exists to produce the kind of Christians who have died to self and sin; who pick up their cross and follow Jesus no matter the cost. We endeavor to be Christians who are unstoppable by evil or cost, determined to obey our Savior and love people even at the expense of our lives. "And I will be Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty." - 2 Corinthians 6:18

Please join us April 7 at 6:30pm for a brief Good Friday service, as we remember Christ's crucifixion.

Good Friday. A perfect example of God's ways being higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts. One cannot possibly read about the betrayal, torture, and crucifixion of Jesus and think, "Let's call this day Good Friday." Good would be the last word one would think to describe this day. Yet we call it "good" because we trust in God's plan and know that His will was done, and He made a way (the only way) for us all to be redeemed, which indeed is very good.

"If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." John 15:18-19 A hard truth to remember and live through. Friday marks a day that Jesus was hated so viciously.

"In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." John 16:33 O thank you, Jesus!

You cannot fully celebrate His resurrection on Sunday morning, without first going through the hard work of suffering with Him through Good Friday. If you do not have a Good Friday service to go to, please consider coming to The Adopted Church's service on April 7th at 6:30pm. If you are tired from a long day at work, or from parenting children and running a house, or if you have other things you think should be higher on the priority list... We urge you to reconsider, and find a Good Friday service to attend. Our faith sometimes (actually, almost all the time) requires hard work and sacrifice. Jesus is worth it.

Then, join us in the glorious celebration of His resurrection on Sunday morning at 10am!

This is our pastor, Riley Palmer - also known as Reverend Palmer, or Rev, or Palmer, or Captain... and his beautiful wife, Corissa.

An Army Ranger turned minister, he planted the Adopted Church in the west plains of Spokane almost a decade ago.

The sign by their front door is one commonly found at the entrance of many people's homes. However, uncommonly, it is the truth here. Everyone is welcome into their home and into their family. They lead by example in "adopting" people into their home. And we as a church hope that, by God's great grace, you feel welcome into our doors and into our adopted church family!
