WEEKEND POWER THOUGHT - GOD'S WORD

And Enoch walked with God; and he was not for God took him.
Genesis 5:24

“Who shall I say has sent me?” Moses asked. “I AM has sent you.” Moses must have concluded God is I AM, and Moses, like Enoch, was not. When John the Baptist was asked if he were Messiah, he emphatically answered, “I am not.” As a culture, a body and individuals we need to understand with Enoch, Moses and John that God IS, and we are not. Most of the time we try to figure out why was I born, who am I, where should I be, where am I going, what should I be doing – self-absorption is endless and leads to nothingness. We need to be like Enoch. He walked with and pleased God. Only when we get our eyes of self and on I AM, will we walk in endless joy and eternal purpose.

Our profession of faith in a just, sovereign God meets the acid test when we are opposed for taking a stand for the truth. If we strike back, we stand in our own strength. If we follow Jesus' example, we stand in the power of God. When the heat is on and we put our confidence in the Lord, we will be able to do what's right even when we're wronged.

God is just waiting for us to cease doing! And once we have done this, He will begin.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6

What do you use for your life's compass? No matter how insightful, wise, experienced, or knowledgeable we may be, only God can guide our steps properly. He asks us to trust Him and His wisdom. When we do we realize that our paths are a lot straighter and our destinations are a lot closer.

WEEKEND POWER THOUGHT - GOD'S WORD

We know that our old self was nailed to the cross with Him in order that our body [which is the instrument] of sin might be made ineffective and inactive for evil, that we might no longer be the slaves of sin.
Romans 6:6

The blood can wash away my sins, but it cannot wash away my “old man.” For this we are in need of the Cross, that the old man may be crucified. Though the blood deals with sins, it is the Cross that deals with the sinner.

Ever feel like you’re “in a hole,” “down in the dumps?” The psalmist did, too. But he found that Jesus was his way out of whatever situation he was in. If you’ll praise Him today and thank Him for His deliverance, He will lift your head and in the process lift you entirely above whatever you’re going through.

The only hope that any man has anywhere in the world is faith in Jesus Christ. In light of what's happening around us today, the truth of the statement is more painfully obvious than ever before. We are a generation with diseases no man can heal, with problems no man can solve. What fleeting successes we have are quickly overshadowed by new and greater crises.

No trial seems good at the moment. We often think because we are Christians, we should be exempt from trials and tribulation. But that is not what the Bible says. Trials can become a place of victory through Jesus or become a place of defeat through our flesh. The choice is yours….

Pretty simple, isn’t it? Or is it? Have you stopped to talk to someone today about another’s “problem or character?” Have you negatively commented about another recently? If so, you’ve let sinners entice you. Something to think about.

WEEKEND POWER THOUGHT - GOD'S WORD

[You were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,] Who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession -- to the praise of His glory.
Ephesians 1:14

God is true to His Word. He gave us a down payment, a deposit, so we could be sure of our inheritance and look forward to the full realization of our salvation. He gave us the Holy Spirit.

I will praise Thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will show forth all Thy marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in Thee: I will sing praise to Thy Name, O Thou most High. When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at Thy presence.
Psalm 9:1-3

Never underestimate the importance of praise. It's one of the most powerful spiritual weapons you have. Praise is more than a pleasant song or a few uplifting words about God. Real praise releases the very presence of God Himself. And, when the presence of God comes on the scene, your enemies are turned back. Sickness and disease can't stay on your body. Poverty can't stay in your house. Even physical weariness has to flee when it's faced with real joy-filled praise.

When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down.
Ephesians 4:26

God doesn’t tell us to never be angry; we’re human and we have emotions. What He does tell us to do is make peace before the sun sets; because the person who angers you, God knew would also control you. And no one is to have control over us except the Lord Jesus Himself. Forgiveness and peace lead to freedom.
