We've been able to have a safe and healthy opening to our two Atrium sessions this fall; praise God!

Watercolor has been a popular work with both our Sunday group and our Tuesday group.

By painting, Cordelia (pictured) is practicing concentration, a first step to contemplation!

We are all ready for our Atrium year!

Today Miss Kate and Miss Julie prepared the environment and the student take home bags with folders of info for parents.

Some prep today looked a little different than last year.

We still refilled the jar of glue, cut a new stack of watercolor paper, and swapped in new candles, just like last year. This year we also created a cleaning area -where an adult will clean all the materials during Atrium after every use by a child- separated the tables for better social distancing, and created Velcro name tags, so each child can choose one table each week and only work at that table (last year every child could choose to work at any table each time they chose new materials). There will be full room cleaning after each session.

The challenges of this year are new and it's easy to get overwhelmed. That's valid.

Two points are clear to me:
1. This is essential work. The most essential work there is. Other essential work is continuing and so must we. We will do our best to make this a safe environment as we spend time with Jesus this year.

2. As a catechist, my job is to support parents and guardians, the first teachers of their children. Whether your family chose "At Home" or "In Person" catechesis this year, your child's first and best teacher of the faith is the one in their home. Time in the Atrium will be impactful if it's a piece of the larger mosaic of Catholic life that your family is living.

Know that you and your children are in my prayers.

See you Sunday, September 20th!

Flower arranging was very popular today, as you can see from our prayer table!

We read from the Holy Bible, sang about the liturgical colors (purple and green, red and white), and some children touched a raised map of the land of Israel, where Jesus lived.

Praise God that we had this time together to enjoy His great love for us!

Visit Day today! We look forward to having children back in the Atrium next week.

A new approach to the religious education of children called Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is being offered at several parishes in the Diocese of Rochester. This catechetical method aims to jump-start children’s relationship with God.

This week in our Atrium, working at the model altar, flower arranging, and pasting were again popular. (If you have any used Christmas cards with small Religious images that we could cut up for pasting, consider donating them to our Atrium!)

Miss Julie presented the Liturgical Colors and the Raised Surface Map of Israel.

Some children held a tiny mustard seed and got to see a photo of a tall tree that grew from a mustard seed.
