FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Town of Speedway Lifts Boil Water Advisory
February 6, 2026
The Town of Speedway has officially lifted the Boil Water Advisory for all residents and businesses, effective immediately. Required water quality testing has been completed in coordination with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), and results confirm that Speedway’s drinking water meets all state safety standards.
Residents may now resume normal use of tap water. However, it is important to take the following steps to flush household plumbing and appliances to ensure any stagnant or potentially impacted water is fully cleared from your system.
Steps to Take After the Boil Water Advisory Is Lifted
Guidance for Residents and Facilities After the Boil Water Advisory is Lifted
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, once a Boil Water Advisory has been lifted, residents and facilities should take steps to flush and reset household and building water systems before resuming normal use.
The CDC recommends the following actions after the advisory is lifted:
• Flush all water fixtures and equipment (including faucets, drinking fountains, and any water-fed appliances) before resuming normal use.
• Run cold water faucets for at least five minutes or until a chlorine smell is detected.
• Discard all ice made during the advisory. Clean and sanitize ice machines according to the manufacturer’s instructions before making new ice.
• Replace point-of-use water filters (such as faucet filters, refrigerator filters, and filters on ice machines). Remove old filters first and flush outlets for several minutes before installing new filters.
• Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle if applicable.
• Drain and flush water storage tanks if needed.
• Facilities with specialized systems (such as reverse osmosis units, dialysis systems, or other medical-grade water treatment systems) should follow manufacturer instructions for disinfection and safe restart procedures.
• In some situations, facilities may need to take additional steps to address hot water systems or building-wide plumbing following a long service disruption.
• Residents who use medical devices or equipment that require water (including in-home medical equipment) should consult their medical provider or equipment manufacturer for specific instructions before resuming use.
For additional information, residents and businesses may refer to the CDC’s boil water advisory guidance and appliance manufacturer instructions for additional details.
Thank You for Your Cooperation
The Town of Speedway appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents and businesses during this precautionary advisory. Town crews worked around the clock to address multiple water main breaks and restore system stability, while adhering to all state-required safety protocols.
