What happens when we think we can hide our lies from God? In 2 Samuel 1, an Amalekite thought he could profit from deception before a new king, only to find that no one escapes the justice of God. His story is a sobering reminder that our secret sins are never truly secret.

But there is good news. For two days after the cross, hope seemed lost. Then on the third day, the true King returned with victory in his hands (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). The only difference between us and the Amalekite is that we can come under the protection of that King.

Join us as we walk through 2 Samuel 1 and discover how David points us forward to Jesus, the mighty Redeemer who saves, shepherds, and transforms his people. The question "Who are you?" has an answer in the Gospel: you are a son or daughter of the King.

What kind of leader do you follow? This week's message from 1 Samuel explored three portraits of leadership: Samuel, marked by obedience to God's word; Saul, marked by self-reliance and pride; and David, marked by genuine faith in the Lord.

The contrast between Saul and David is striking. Saul was impressive on the outside but consumed with his own reputation. David was impressed with God, and that made all the difference. As 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us, God does not see as man sees—he looks at the heart.

The book points us ultimately to one greater than any of these leaders. Jesus, born in David's line, is the King who never fails. If you have never trusted him, today is the day to consider where your heart is truly fixed.

Join us Sunday as we begin the book of 2 Samuel as we consider 2 Samuel 2:1-16.
