BHSU Newman Center

BHSU Newman Center Capital Campaign for the BHSU Newman Center - We need your support to build a New Newman Center for BHSU students, faculty and the Spearfish Community.

For more information follow Jacket Catholic page! Our objective is to build a Newman Center that is more accessible and visible to the students and faculty at the Black Hills State University campus, and to support and strengthen the faith of the Catholic students and young adults during a critical transitional time of their lives. It is our hope that the students will take the spiritual

gifts they have received through their ministries and share those gifts with others wherever their careers and vocations lead them. We are committed to serving the spiritual needs of all students and faculty who choose to be part of the Newman Center family. A new Newman Center will be able to offer a variety of new programming and be an effective place to grow in Christian Discipleship. Students will use the center for worship, spiritual direction, weekly and daily Mass, Bible study, and fellowship. Students active in the Newman Center also provide outreach and service to the Spearfish community. Last year Newman students logged more than 900 hours of community service. Projects include; delivering Meals on Wheels, snow removal, assisting with the Good Shepherd Clinic, which provides free healthcare for those in need. Along with these programs, the facility will be open to the greater community, with access for weddings, receptions, graduation ceremonies, retreats, picnics, other university and community events. Our goal is to have the Newman Center built and ready for use in 2017. As you consider your generous gift to make this vision a reality, we encourage you to visit with our Campaign Team about any questions you may have. Exciting changes are being made within the BHSU Newman Center! (Read the shared post for more details.)

We're glad to be under this new umbrella of "JacketCatholic" -- and hope it helps others to understand all that are involved in the Catholic campus ministry here in Spearfish.

[Don't worry, our building name is still the same!]

A name change is in the works!

In the next few weeks, our page (previously BHSU Newman) will be transitioning to the new title of JacketCatholic.

Why the change?

Our club on the BHSU campus will still be called the BHSU Newman Club, and our building just a block away from campus will still be called the BHSU Newman Center!

But it's never been just about the “Club” or just the "Center"— it’s about the ministry as a whole.

What may come out of the Club or the Center isn't ever the sole effort of one person or one group. It's the collaboration between Spearfish Saint Joseph's, Black Hills State University, FOCUS-The Fellowship of Catholic University Students, and so many more individuals.

So, that's why our page name will be changed. Each of these entities plays a role in our ministry, and we want to acknowledge that in the way we present ourselves!

Plus... we think our new overarching name JacketCatholic would be pretty sweet slapped on some stickers and t-shirts... Don't you agree? 😉

Last time Bishop Gruss was visiting, our Chapel was being consecrated!

Thank you for celebrating Mass with us tonight, Bishop Gruss!

So excited we got to share the amazing progress that’s been made since our Grand Opening in August.

If we started to list everything that’s happened since then, you’d be scrolling for days!

So so so much to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours —

There are no words that can properly express how thankful we are this year... Our brand new Newman Center and the welcoming of FOCUS-The Fellowship of Catholic University Students missionaries to our campus has had an immeasurable impact on those of us who are devoted to the Newman club, those attending BHSU, and all those in the surrounding community!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who has supported and loved us. Now, go eat some turkey!
