Happy Labor Day! We pray that everyone has a safe holiday weekend.

On this day, we pray especially for those working full time or part time and those who are in a season of looking for work.

Read below, A Blessing for Workers and All Seeking Work from The United Methodist Church:

Blessed are you, ever-creating God,
in your image, our lives are made;
in your glory, we offer all the work of our hearts and hands and minds.
Blessed are you, O God, now and forever!

Blessed are you whose work is repaid,
for by your work, and by the payment you receive
your lives and the lives of others around you and around the world are blessed.
We thank God for you day by day.

Blessed are you whose work is unpaid,
who offer what you can to enrich the lives of others,
through time, talents, skill, strength, and love.
We praise God for your generous labor!

Blessed are you who seek work but have not found it,
or whose work now is not yet what it may be
yet still you seek, that your gifts may be shared more fully.
We praise God for your diligent seeking and pray you may soon find!

Yours is the glory in their labors.
Yours be the glory in all our lives, in Jesus' name. Amen.

πŸ… One "yes" changed everything.

When 12-year-old Camden came to a yard sale at Messiah UMC in Lincolnton, he noticed the church's empty garden plots and asked if he could plant vegetables there. Church member Janet Reep Morgan said yes β€” and the long-overgrown "Deeper Down Garden" came back to life.

Camden cleared and tilled the plots himself, and now grows cucumbers, watermelons, tomatoes, zucchini, pumpkins, asparagus and peppers. He mows around them, too β€” worried the lawn service would "mow over my maters!" 🌱

Messiah UMC isn't his home church, but they've given his family friendship and mentorship. Next year? Onions, berry bushes, and "an apple tree." 🍎

"Worship is taking what you believe, where you feel led, and being the hands and feet of Jesus β€” whether it is in an overgrown garden, in a patch of wildflowers, or in a sanctuary." β€” Janet Reep Morgan

"Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them." πŸ“– Matthew 18:19-20

Jesus noted that heaven is enacted in the midst of community. When we connect with one another for mutual support, care, and accountability, we encounter a bit of God's desired connect for all people. We uplift one another.

Who do you find it agreeable to gather with in Jesus' name? Who is an important part of your faith community?

Last weekend, Hurricane Lala caused significant damage and destruction across Hawaii, destroying bridges, washing homes from their foundations, and cutting off entire communities on the Big Island.

While emergency crews and first responders work to restore power, reopen critical infrastructure, and assess the storm's toll, funds from UMCOR awarded to the California-Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church are providing immediate relief and aid to those in need through debris removal, the distribution of supplies, and food and water provisions.

As the conference assesses long-term community needs, UMCOR stands ready to support their ongoing response efforts, especially as Hawaiians face a new tropical storm threat this weekend.
