🌿 Tuesday | Psalm 42 — Honest Lament

“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him.” — Psalm 42:5

Psalm 42 doesn’t give us a picture of someone who has everything together.

It gives us someone thirsty for God. Someone crying. Someone remembering better days. Someone asking, “Where is your God?”

And yet, again and again, the psalmist interrupts his despair with truth:

Hope in God.

His circumstances may not have changed yet. His heart may still hurt. His questions may still remain. But he knows where to point his soul.

Sometimes we have to do the same.

• When your feelings say God is distant, remember His faithfulness.
• When your soul is cast down, speak truth over it.
• When you’re thirsty, keep seeking the living God.

You may be in the lament now, but Psalm 42 reminds us: “I shall again praise Him.” 🤍

🌿 Monday | Psalm 8 — Wonder & Praise

“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” — Psalm 8:3–4

Sometimes we get so busy living that we forget to look up.

David looked at the heavens—the moon, the stars, the work of God’s fingers—and was overwhelmed by one thought: How can a God this great still care so deeply about us?

Yet He does. 🤍

The God who placed every star in the sky knows your name. The One who holds creation together is mindful of you today.

Today, take a moment to look up and remember: the God who made it all sees you, knows you, and cares for you.

Praise isn’t just for when life is good.

Psalm 34 reminds us that praise is meant for all times—when the prayers are answered, when the blessings are obvious, and even when life feels like it’s falling apart.

“I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” — Psalm 34:1

Praise Him on the mountaintop. Praise Him in the valley. Praise Him when you understand, and praise Him when you don’t. Because His goodness doesn’t change when our circumstances do. 🤍

🌿 Friday - The Bone That Did Not Break
Read: Psalm 34:19-22
"He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken... none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned."

Discover a promise that holds when everything else breaks?

Psalm 34 never promised an easy life. It promised a kept one.

Verse 19 is honest: "Many are the afflictions of the righteous."
No pretending. No spin.

Then verse 20 makes a strange, specific promise: "He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken."

Hold that verse. Now walk to a Friday afternoon outside Jerusalem.Three crosses. Soldiers going down the row, breaking the legs of the crucified to hurry death along. They break the first man's legs. They break the second man's. They come to Jesus — and he is already dead. So they do not break his.

And John, standing close enough to watch, writes it down: "these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled:'Not one of his bones will be broken.'"

The Righteous One and the Lamb
Two Scriptures meet at that cross: Psalm 34:20, and the rule for the Passover lamb - do not break one of its bones. The righteous sufferer and the Passover lamb turn out to be the same body.

That is why brokenhearted people can sing "taste and see that the LORD is good" and mean every word. The truly Righteous One was crushed in our place — so that the last verse could be true of us: "None of those who take refuge in him will be condemned."

There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Thursday— Come, O Children 🤎

📖 Read: Psalm 34:11–14
“Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.”

Ever wonder who is actually teaching your kids about God?

The dinner table is the first sanctuary a child ever attends.

Here is something you can’t see in English.

In Hebrew, Psalm 34 is an acrostic — verse 1 starts with A, verse 2 with B, straight through the alphabet. It was built that way on purpose. So a child could memorize it.

And halfway through the song, David turns to the room and says it out loud — “Come, O children, listen to me.”

This psalm was written with the kids in the room.

The First Sanctuary

In Israel, faith was not handed down at the temple. It was handed down at home. At the table. Out loud.

It still is.

Parents, you are the primary worship leaders of your house.
Not the church staff. You.

And the curriculum is refreshingly plain: keep your tongue from evil. Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and chase it.

Not complicated. Just daily. 🤍

🌿 Wednesday — You Can’t Taste From a Distance

📖 Read: Psalm 34:8

“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”

You cannot experience God from a distance!

You can hear about bread all day.
You can watch someone else eat it.
You can read every review of the bakery.
But you still have not tasted.

Secondhand faith can describe God. Firsthand faith tastes and sees.

Psalm 34:8 does not say, “taste and think.” It says, “taste and see.”

God is not inviting you to study Him from across the room.
He is inviting you to come close enough to know His goodness for yourself.

Not your grandmother’s testimony only.
Not your pastor’s sermon only.
Not someone else’s miracle only.

Tuesday — This Poor Man
Read: Psalm 34:4–6
“This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.”

Ever felt like all you had left was a cry?

David could have led with his résumé.
Giant-killer. Anointed king. Warrior. Worshiper.

But when he tells his testimony, he does not say, “this strong man fought.”

He says, “this poor man cried.”

Sometimes the breakthrough begins with one honest cry.

At Gath, David had no army, no status, and no strength left to prove.
All he had was need.

And God heard him.

That is the miracle of Psalm 34: your cry does not have to sound impressive to reach heaven.

God doesn’t wait for your polished performance. He meets you in your honest need. 🙏🤎

Monday — The Worst Morning Ever
Read: Psalm 34:1
“I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Ever had to praise God on a morning you would rather erase?

This is not polished praise. This is survival praise.

David wrote Psalm 34 after one of the most humiliating moments of his life. The giant-killer was running scared, pretending to be insane, and trying to survive in front of a foreign king.

And that is when he said: “I will bless the LORD at all times.”

Not after the breakthrough. In the middle of the mess.

That word “continually” carries the idea of a fire that stays lit. Praise was never meant to be a spark that only shows up when life behaves.

It is a holy fire you refuse to let go out.

Even here. Even now. Even before everything makes sense.
