John's is a vibrant community of people who believe in Christ. As Lutherans, we believe that God has always loved us, that Jesus died and rose again for our sake, and that the Holy Spirit is active in the world now. St. John’s youth were given an opportunity to assist with a part of St. Luke's Teaching Garden during their In-Town Mission week last month. They enjoyed this task and learned a number of horticultural facts during their time at Spartanburg’s Clemson Extension office.

Voting members from St. John's have enjoyed being in Columbia these last 3 days for the 2026 South Carolina Synod Assembly, under the theme 'Created to Create, ' Doug McKenzie, Pastor Heather Apel, Krisie Morich-Turner, Lizzy Turner, and Pastor Wade Apel (missing Richard E Sprang due to illness).

We've enjoyed connecting with over 400 fellow Lutherans and others from across SC and beyond, times of worship and song, conducting the business of the wider church, including a prayerful discernment process of electing a bishop for the SC Synod. The Holy Spirit has been active in this place!

And let us introduce you to the Bishop -elect, Rev. Wade Roof, currently serving at Mt. Tabor, West Columbia. He will begin serving in this office, September 1.
