Sunday Recap
We just completed our Pentecost Series, and one statement we spoke during these messages was, “God sees beyond who we are to who we can become in Him.”
In Acts 1, Jesus was with His disciples, continuing to teach them. Before His ascension, they asked Him a question concerning the kingdom. The disciples were expecting the restoration of an earthly kingdom, but Jesus redirected their focus to something far greater. They asked about timing and restoration; Jesus answered with power and mission. He was preparing them for more.
In Acts 2 the promise is given.
How do we see Pentecost? Is it merely a moment of power? Is it simply another experience in God? Pentecost is the promise of the Father given to His people, and that promise finds a home in hearts that have been prepared. Pentecost was an overflow of what Jesus had been doing in their lives all along. They were prepared for more.
For years, Jesus had been shaping, teaching, correcting, and preparing His followers. What happened in the Upper Room was not manufactured emotion or human effort. It was real, it was powerful, it was the Father’s gift, received into the hearts of those that had been formed in His presence.
The same is true for us today.
The work of the Holy Spirit was never meant to replace the work of Christ, but to continue and deepen His work within us. The Spirit draws us closer to Jesus, strengthens our understanding of truth, transforms our character, and empowers us to live differently in a world that desperately needs Him.
Are you being prepared in His presence? Have you received from the Teacher? Have you been filled with the Holy Spirit? Have you asked the Father for this gift?
The gift of the Holy Spirit far exceeds a moment, but this gift is the power, grace, and anointing of God, actively empowering the hearts, minds, and souls of His children.
As believers, may we continue:
• To repent and remain sensitive to God's voice.
• To sit in a seat of preparation at the feet of Jesus.
• To seek a deeper work of the Holy Spirit.
• To grow in the truth of God's Word.
• To live as witnesses of Christ in our world.
We've been prepared to live differently. We've been prepared for more.
May we allow the Holy Spirit to continue to deepen the work Christ began in each of us.
