Day 5 of Holy Week

Today is referred to as Maundy Thursday. Maundy is derived from the Latin word mandatum meaning “commandment.”

On this day, Jesus Celebrates the Passover with His disciples. He reveals that one of them will betray Him.

He institutes the Lord’s Supper. An ordinance we observe in remembrance of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

He predicts that Peter will deny Him three times. Peter denies it will happen but it does.

Jesus goes into the Garden of Gethsemane where He ask His disciples to pray. They fall asleep!

He is betrayed by Judas in the Garden and arrested.

He is condemned to death by the Sanhedrin.

Day 4 of celebrating Holy Week!

Today is referred to as Holy Wednesday or Spy Wednesday.

The Religious leaders continue to seek how that can arrest and kill Jesus.

Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread begins. This halts the actions of the Religious Leaders who fear it will cause an uproar among the people.

Jesus enters the house of Simon the L***r in Bethany. A woman with a flask of expensive oil enters and begins to anoint Jesus’ head.

Some of the people complain about what they consider a waste of the expensive oil.

Jesus reveals that the woman is preparing His body for burial. It falls on deaf ears.

Judas agreed to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Thus the reason this day is referred to as “Spy Wednesday!”

Day 3 of Celebrating Holy Week!

Even though Jesus received a warm welcome from the people on Palm Sunday, there was a group of people who were not a part of the Welcome Committee- the Religious Leaders!

Jesus spends His time teaching the people and at the same time trying to prepare the disciples for what was about to happen during this week.

The Religious Leaders questioned His authority. They were hoping to find a reason to have Him arrested.

However, they feared how the people would respond- for now anyway!

Jesus overturns the tables of the money changers.

Why?

They had become money makers by using dishonest practices against those who had no choice but to use their services for Passover.

He reminds them of the purpose of His Father’s House-A House of Prayer!
