To all the Neverfail congregation and friends, I ask our Lord to bless us with a year of asking Him to work His promise of making all things work for His good and ours.
May this be a year of choosing to follow Him. Choosing to let Him teach us how to Love Him with truth and in the power of His Spirit. Choosing to answer the call to be about His purpose, trusting even when we do not understand. That His mighty power might work in and through us as He teaches us to meet together and walk with Him in ways we have not done before this year. May the Holy Spirit give us a confident expectation and eagerness to be a part of His Good Work this year.
May we celebrate this New Season of opportunity and blessing together in our Lord.
In His Love,
Pastor Emily

Matthew 2:16 'Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time from which he had determined from the magi.' . . Herod was not going to tolerate a threat to his throne. Not even an infant was going to disturb his control over his kingdom. Even something as evil as infantcide could seem reasonable to a person whose sovereignty is threatened. . . It is best for each of us to learn early that there is a King that has authority over our lives and that it is not we, ourselves. Staying rightly related to the one King who has the right to rule over us will save us the temptations of who knows what horrible evils. Humble yourself before the Lord and He will lift you up. Think more highly of yourself than you ought to and your evil pride will surely bring you down.

Matthew 2:9-10 'After hearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was. When they saw the star, the rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.' . . Of all the scripture recorded, the first 12 verses of Matthew 2 may raise more unanswered questions than any other. 'Who were these Magi?' 'Where did they come from?' 'How did they know what this star meant?' 'What kind of thing was this that is called a star?' Tradition tells us there were 3 men but scripture never tells us that. There are 3 gifts identified but we're not told if there were additional gifts. We are left without answers to much, yet we still believe. This passage shows God at work in foreigners' lives so convincingly that they would commence a journey to find this new king and bring Him gifts to pay homage to Him. The same Spirit of God that motivated these Magi is who enlightens us that we, too, would honor the Christ in our journey. Bring Jesus your gifts and bow before Him.

Luke 2:38 'At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.' . . The prophetess Anna had spent decades of her life in the temple serving God. When she saw the infant Jesus in the temple for his dedication, Anna knew by faith that this child was the hope of redemption. Anna spoke about this child to all those who were expecting God to provide a deliverer. It is difficult for any person to hear and receive the Good News of God's invitation to forgiveness and reconciliation if they have not first been prepared with an expectation that God would even do such a thing. Hearts must be prepared to hope and wishes then grow to confident expectation that God not only can, but is willing to rescue the perishing. Then the Good News of redemption through Jesus Christ can explode into salvation for anyone who will believe.

Luke 2:25 '... Simeon ... was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.' . . At the appointed time, Joseph and Mary brought the infant Jesus to the temple to be dedicated to the Lord. Simeon lived daily in expectation of God's deliverance of Israel from evils (both foreign and domestic) that kept the people from true devotion to God. When Simeon saw the infant Jesus, he knew that God would offer all people that deliverance through this child. By faith, Simeon saw God's provision of salvation that he longed for. By faith, Simeon was prepared to leave this life in peace. It is with that very same faith that I am confident that through Jesus, I am being delivered into the Peace of God that was proclaimed by the angels unto the shepherds that night long ago. It is by grace through faith that I am saved from my evils.

John 14:26 'But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.' . . . Believers are without excuse for not knowing God's desires. The believer posesses a resource that the unbeliever lacks. The single greatest proof the believer has that he or she has been redeemed is the indwelling presence of God's Spirit. God has deposited this within us as a seal of promise that God will complete the work of salvation that the believer entrusted to God. Just as the believer continues to trust God for salvation, the believer must trust that God's abiding Spirit will guide them by teaching them all things. All choices should be made with the counsel of God's Spirit, our Helper and our teacher. Surely the consequences of our poor decisions could have been avoided (for ourselves and others we have impacted) if we had just acted on the perfect counsel of this Helper whom God has provided!

Philippians 3:13-14 '... but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal . . . ' All that we have experienced in the past (even as recently as yesterday) is history. All that is yet to be is our future. Our history and our future are separated by 'now.' This is the moment in which we live. The person we are is largely formed by our history of what has been. Our history also influences our goals for the future. Our history need not burden us or weigh us down for we are on a journey leaving the past behind and moving toward a future. God has plans and purposes for us that are good. In this moment we should be pressing forward towards God's goals for us. The past has served its purpose. Learn the lessons but turn loose the burdens. Fix your eyes on Jesus in the 'now,' for He has authored our future goals and it is He that is able to bring us through to that future hope.

Genesis 1:1 In the begining God created the heavens and the earth.' . . Many people do not believe that there was 'a beginning.' Without a belief in 'the beginning' there is little basis to be concerned about 'the end.' Every person's life comes to an end. Every season must come to an end, whether the annual cycle of seasons or the rise and fall of nations and cultures and great thinkings. But without a belief in 'the beginning' into which God created all that is, a person is adrift in a puzzling infinity . But God did create a beginning and God has appointed an end of all things as we know them. There is purpose and direction in the creation into which we have been placed. It is a good exercise to wrestle with God for discernment of such things. God continues to share truth with those who will seek Him. In the beginning, God was there. God will still be after the end.

Romans 2:5 'But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,' . . . God's hope in showing us kindness is that we would respond by turning from our own ways and joining His ways. However God's patience and forebearance are not without limits and everyone should be sure that God is not mocked but we will reap what we sow. Repentance will yield forgiveness and an end of God's wrath stored up against us. Pride and stubbornness will yield judgment and the full measure of wrath which has been stored up during the season of patient forebearance and kindness. Humble yourself in repentance before God and He will lift you up.

Romans 2:4 'Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience. not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?' . . . It might help our attitudes if we would daily consider what God tolerates in us. It is certainly in error to believe that God's tolerance is evidence of God's approval of our ways. It is God's kindness expressed towards us that God does not quickly cause us to reap the just consequences of our offenses. God offers us this kindness so that we might change our ways and align ourselves with God. From opposition to agreement; this is God's desired return on His investment in His rich kindness directed towards us. This grace should not be taken lightly.

2 Corinthians 1:4 '[God] comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.' . . If we as believers will allow God, by His Spirit who abides within us, to minister to us through difficult times, we will find relief to deal with our distresses. The ministry that God provides to us not only empowers us to endure our difficulties but also equips and qualifies us to share that same comfort with other people who are struggling in their own afflictions. Not only are we qualified to help others, we are obligated to offer comfort to others because we received the gift of comfort from God who generously gave to us. God honors us by His ministry so that we would be His agents of blessing to the world. This is but a portion of God's goodwill towards humankind on earth.
