Psalm 119:169-172
Leader: Let our cry come before You. O Lord; give us understanding
according to your word!
People. Let our plea come before You; deliver us according to your word.
Leader: Our lips will pour forth praise for You. Teach me your statutes.
People: Our tongues will sing of your word. For all your commandments are
right.
Hymn: Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee page 90
Verse 1
Joyful joyful we adore Thee
God of glory Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee
Opening to the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day
Verse 2
All Thy works with joy surround Thee
Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays
Stars and angels sing around Thee
Center of unbroken praise
Field and forest vale and mountain
Flowery meadow flashing sea
Chanting bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee
Verse 3
Thou art giving and forgiving
Ever blessing ever blest
Wellspring of the joy of living
Ocean depth of happy rest
Thou our Father Christ our Brother
All who live in love are Thine
Teach us how to love each other
Lift us to the joy divine
Verse 4
Mortals join the mighty chorus
Which the morning stars began
Love divine is reigning o'er us
Leading us with Mercy’s hand
Ever signing, marching onward
Victors in the midst of strife
Joyful music leads us sunward
In the triumph song of life

Prayer of Confession (in unison)
1 Timothy 6: 9-10
Loving Lord, we have seen again and again how You provide for our needs. But
sometimes we still want more. Lust for money brings trouble, and when we long to
be rich we fall into temptation. We can be trapped by many foolish and harmful
desires that plunge us into ruin and self-destruction. The love of money is the root
of all kinds of evil. Going down that path, craving more and more, we can lose our
footing and wander away from faith in You. We pierce ourselves with many
sorrows and live to regret it bitterly. Please forgive our greed.
Assurance of Pardon:
Loving God, You have defended my cause and redeemed me; You have preserved
my life according to Your promise. “I wash my hands in innocence, and go about
Your altar, oh Lord, proclaiming aloud Your praise and telling of Your wonderful
deeds.” We can be in Your presence and offer our praise because of Jesus Christ,
our Savior, in whom we are forgiven.
#813 Gloria Patri “Glory Be to the Father
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son
And to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning
Is now and ever shall be
World without end. Amen Amen

Responsive Reading: Psalm 119: 153-176:
Leader: Look on my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten Your
law.
People: Defend my cause and redeem me; preserve my life according to your
promise
Leader: Salvation is far from wicked, for they do not seek out your decrees.
People: Your compassion, Lord, is great; preserve my life according to your laws.
Leader: Many are the foes who persecute me, but I have not turned from your
statutes.
People: I look on the faithless with loathing, for they do not obey your word.
Leader: See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, Lord, in accordance
with your love.
People: All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.
Leader: Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at your
word.
People: I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoils.
Leader: I hate and detest falsehood but I love your law.
People; Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws.
Leader: Great peace, have those who love your law, and nothing can make
them stumble.
People: I wait for your salvation, Lord, and I follow your commands.
Leader: I obey your statues, for I love them greatly.
People: I obey your precepts and your statutes, for all my ways are known to you.
Leader: May my cry come before You, Lord; give me understanding
according to your word.
People: May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your
promise
Leader: May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees
People: May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous.
Leader: May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.
People: I long for your salvation, Lord, and your law gives me delight.
Leader: Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me.
All: I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten
your commands.

Dedication of the Offering
Scripture Readings:
1 Timothy 6: 6-10
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the
world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will
be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and
into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money,
have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
James 3:13-16
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life,
by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter
envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15
Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual,
demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder
and every evil practice.
Exodus 20:17
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s
wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to
your neighbor.”
Sermon: Choose Being Content or Being Envious
Hymn: Little Is Much If God Is In It page 661
Verse 1
In the harvest field now ripened
There's a work for all to do
Hark the voice of God is calling
To the harvest calling you
Chorus
Little is much when God is in it
Labor not for wealth or fame
There's a crown and you can win it
If you go in Jesus' name
Verse 2
Does the place you're called to labor
Seem so small and little known
It is great if God is in it
And He'll not forget His own
Chorus
Little is much when God is in it
Labor not for wealth or fame
There's a crown and you can win it
If you go in Jesus' name
Verse 3
When the conflict here is ended
And our race on earth is run
He will say if we are faithful
Welcome home My child well done
Chorus
Little is much when God is in it
Labor not for wealth or fame
There's a crown and you can win it
If you go in Jesus' name

Prayer of The People:
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will
be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us
our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Affirmation of Faith-The Apostle’s Creed
We believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and
born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of
the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church*,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
