Our hearts break for all those impacted by the Main Street fire last night. Join us in prayer for our community. We are so lucky to have a dedicated team of volunteer firefighters who worked tirelessly all night.

The church is paying attention to any response needs that come out in the next days.

A year ago our church decided to begin an endowment because we know that in a 100 years we want Sparta United Methodist Church to be a thriving congregation and continue its service to our county.

The interest that this endowment generates will be able to support the ministry this church is called to for generations to come, and it starts with gifts that can be shared right now.

To begin this process, we assembled our endowment committee, made a video to share, and this past Sunday invited the United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina to give us a presentation on how we can begin the process of growing our endowment.

We see the value of all size gifts and want to walk alongside you as you consider how your investments and gifts can be a part of this shared mission. Reach out to us if you have any questions, this is an exciting era for our church and for our community!

We have exciting news for our church! We are merging our food access ministry efforts with the New River Cooperative Parish!

What was formerly known as Local Food as Medicine is now known as Nourishing Neighbors. Our friends at New River already had a robust meal delivery system and we were giving out locally produced food as part of a monthly Grace Kitchen distribution and we decided to merge these efforts.

Both ministries will look the same and serve our neighbors in the same way, but we will be working together, sharing resources and pursuing funding together. We already see the gift of doing this work together rather than separate.

It’s a great day to be a United Methodist in Alleghany county!

Our United Women of Faith group went to West Jefferson to check out the frescoes this week! They meet monthly and are always happy to welcome newcomers! Reach out if you want to get connected.

We are so grateful for everyone’s donations! The Sheriff’s office’s back to school event was a huge success! They estimated a 1000 people were involved.

We got to see so many of our GOAL camp kids come through the line and the gift of those relationships that are formed and connect with so many other students and their families.

Sparta, we are so happy you are the kind of church that supports our schools. It’s great to be a part of a town like this one!
