A short word of encouragement.. from our brother Scott.
While being transported to Italy, the apostle Paul faced a tempest that could have taken the lives of everyone on board the ship. Being very much in tune with God, fully aligned with His purposes, Paul warned the men that the voyage would end in disaster. Though they did not listen to his sound advice, God spared everyone on the ship from death. He had revealed to Paul the outcome of the coming shipwreck on the island of Malta (Acts 27). “For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, saying ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you,’” (Acts 27:23-24). How many times do we fail to act on sound counsel from a man of God - a pastor, elder, or trusted friend? How many times does this result in hardship and regret when the storm comes?
The storms in this life come to all of us at some point, and sometimes there is no telling when they will be over. But what helps us overcome them is to stand on the word of God, knowing that it, above all else, brings peace and joy. Whatever you may be facing, whether it is fear, feelings of condemnation, health problems, financial problems, familial strife, or any opposition from the enemy in general; God is sovereign. When we stray from Him for any reason, the answer is to return to and cling to Jesus, to hold on tightly by cleansing ourselves with the Bible, prayer, and worship.
As Hebrews 13:8 shows us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” And correspondingly, “God is not human, that He should lie, not a human being, that He should change his mind,” (Numbers 23:19). The unchanging, unwavering nature of God means that we can stand on His forever enduring truth, stabilizing our hearts and minds.
