Ephesians 4:22–24 — Put Off the Old Self, Put On the New Self
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
— Ephesians 4:22–24 (NIV)
This passage describes what it means to live as a follower of Christ. Salvation is not just about forgiveness—it is about transformation.
1. Put Off the Old Self
The “old self” is the person we were before Christ—controlled by sin, selfish desires, pride, anger, lust, fear, and rebellion against God. Paul tells us to lay it aside like taking off dirty clothes. You cannot walk in victory while clinging to the old life.
2. Be Renewed in Your Mind
Transformation begins in the mind. As the saying goes, you are what you feed. When you fill your heart with God’s Word and allow the Holy Spirit to guide your thinking, your attitudes, decisions, and actions begin to change. God’s truth replaces the lies of the enemy.
3. Put On the New Self
The new self is your new identity in Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, you are called to live in true righteousness and holiness, reflecting God’s character. This is not something you earn by good works; it is the life Christ empowers you to live.

Prayer
Father, thank You for making me a new creation in Christ. Help me to put off the old self and reject the sinful patterns of my past. Renew my mind through Your Word and by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Teach me to walk in true righteousness and holiness so that my life reflects Jesus every day. Strengthen me to live according to my new identity in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
