We have experienced this at Southwick Congregational. It's great advice worth repeating.
🚨 SCAM ALERT – PLEASE SHARE 🚨
The Granby Police Department is advising residents of a recently reported scam involving someone pretending to be affiliated with a local church and requesting money in the form of gift cards.
Watch out for:
• Unexpected texts, emails, or messages asking for gift cards or money.
• Requests to purchase gift cards and provide the card numbers or PINs.
• Messages creating a sense of urgency or secrecy.
• Someone claiming to be a pastor, church leader, or other trusted person but contacting you from an unfamiliar number or account.
Protect yourself:
• Never provide gift card numbers or PINs to someone who contacts you unexpectedly.
• Verify the request by contacting the church or person directly using a known, trusted phone number.
• Don't let anyone pressure you into acting quickly.
Remember: Legitimate organizations generally will not ask you to pay them with gift cards.
If you receive anything suspicious or concerning and are unsure what to do, please call us at 860-844-5335. We rather answer some questions then have someone be the next victim to one of these scams.
