🙏 THANK YOU, SANGHA! 🙏

This month, the South Florida Zen Group was able to make our largest donation yet to The Caring Place / Broward Outreach Center in Hollywood!

Thanks to the generosity of our sangha members, we donated a record 5 bags of clothing and 2 boxes of food. ❤️

This simple act of giving is an expression of the values we share with The Caring Place:

🌿 Compassion — Love in action
☀️ Hope — Expect the best
🌱 Restoration — Regain that which was lost
✨ Transformation — Achieving permanent, positive change

Thank you to everyone who contributed. May our practice continue to extend beyond the meditation cushion and into our community. 🙏

Our thoughts are with our Korean sangha, with whom we share the temple with, as they begin the 49th-day ceremony since the passing of one of their members.

In Korean Buddhism, the 49-day ceremony is an important tradition of remembrance, prayer, and the dedication of merit for someone who has passed away.

Though we did not take part in the ceremony, we hold our Korean sangha and the family of the deceased in our hearts during this time. May the merit of their practice bring peace and comfort, and may the departed be free from suffering. 🙏🏻

Bringing Our Children Home 🙏

As a Florida sangha, we were deeply moved to learn that 163 missing children have recently been located and brought to safety. These are 163 individual human beings who deserve safety, care, dignity, and the opportunity to heal.

In Zen, compassion isn’t simply something we feel—it is something we practice. Today, let us hold these children in our hearts and dedicate our practice to them, and to all children who are still missing or suffering.

May those who have been found be surrounded by people who care for them.
May those still missing be brought home safely.

🙏 Celebrating Our Sangha at the August Retreat 🙏

Our August retreat was a beautiful time of practice, connection, and deepening our commitment to the Dharma. ❤️

We are especially happy to celebrate Tia, who took the Five Precepts during the retreat. May these precepts continue to guide her practice and open the way to greater wisdom and compassion. 🌱🙏

We also celebrate Sandra and Brian from Gainesville, who became Dharma Teachers during the retreat. We are so grateful for their continued practice and their willingness to support and guide others on the path. May their teaching be of benefit to all beings. 🙏✨

A special thank you as well to Claudia, Abbot of the Orlando Zen Center, who joined us for the retreat and officiated the ceremonial burns, helping us mark this powerful ritual of letting go and transformation. 🔥🙏

And we are deeply grateful to Zen Master Jok Um, who came all the way from New York to guide us through the retreat. His presence, teaching, and encouragement made the retreat truly special. As an especially wonderful gift, he also wrote each of us a short poem—a personal Dharma treasure to take home and contemplate. 🪷📜

What a beautiful reminder that we do not practice alone. We practice together, support one another, celebrate one another’s milestones, and continue walking the Dharma path together.

🙏 Chant for the People of Nepal 🇳🇵

Dear Sangha,

Many of us have seen the heartbreaking images coming from Nepal—homes swept away by devastating floods and landslides, families displaced, and people struggling to survive amid the destruction.

In this difficult moment, I invite our South Florida Zen Group sangha to hold the people of Nepal in our practice.

관세음보살 — Kwan Se Um Bosal

and

지장보살 — Ji Jang Bosal

May those who are still in danger be brought to safety. May the earth and waters settle, and may the people of Nepal have the strength and resources to rebuild.

Kwan Se Um Bosal.
Ji Jang Bosal. 🙏

May all beings be free from suffering.
