👏🏽To God be the Glory! Dr. DeShondra Smith accepted our award in Salisbury on Saturday, where we are one of the 2026 grant recipients of the Institute for Rural & Small-Town Ministry & Leadership grant through HoodEmpowers and the Lilly Foundation!

The Southport Unity Committee sponsored its annual Juneteenth Celebration. Bro. James White, one of our members, marched in the parade representing the US Colored Troops. Sis. Yasmine Sharon and her two daughters, Aniyah and Aviana, who are proud students at the illustrious North Carolina Central University, rode in the parade representing our church.

On Sunday, we celebrated Men's Day. Brother Kenneth White was the Chairperson, and Rev. Brian Monroe was the speaker. Rev. Monroe's topic was "Code of Conduct," in which he implored us to examine how we treat one another and God.

Last week, we collaborated with the Faithful 5 for a 3-day Vacation Bible School where our very own, Brother Brion Smith, taught the Adult Class on Monday about Trusting God When We Can't See the Whole Picture.

Sis. Regina White Alexander, one of our Class Leaders who's also a Missionary, blessed our sick and shut-in along with seniors in the community with homemade banana nut bread.

Instead of our traditional Lay Sunday service, we had a 5th Sunday Brunch in our Fellowship Hall. Our speaker was our Lay President, Sis. Sylvia Jenrette, who instructed us on our role as Lay people in the church. A special thanks to Sis. Jenrette for the vision to do something different and Sis. CaShante Jackson for the scrumptious homemade waffles.

Rev. Nathaniel Johnson, Pastor at Summerville AMEZ Church, preached a powerful word during our 50 Men in Black program, chaired by our First Gentleman, Brother Nathaniel Brown. The message was titled “See it Through”. Rev. Johnson expressed that we aren’t called to understand everything, but called to see it through, and that sometimes we get weary in doing right because we don’t see the payoff. However, Paul reminds us that in due season we shall reap if we stay committed even when it gets complicated, consistent when we feel confused, and confident until it comes to completion 🙌🏽
