Calvary Southport Daily – Ephesians 4:13-32/ Day 3
Devotional –
Day 3: The Battle of Desires
Reading: James 1:13-15; Genesis 3:1-7; Matthew 5:27-30
Devotional: Sin doesn't begin with action—it starts in the heart with desire. Eve saw the fruit was "desired to make one wise" before she ever touched it. James reveals the progression: desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and sin brings forth death. Jesus raised the standard even higher, showing that anger and lust in the heart constitute sin before any outward act. This isn't meant to discourage us but to reveal where the real battle lies. Our corrupt old self cannot be trusted; its desires lead to death. I sometimes say, "Ain't nothing good in the flesh!" But God offers transformation from within—a renewed mind and a new self created in His likeness. Where are you nurturing desires that don't honor God? Bring them to the cross today and ask the Holy Spirit to transform your heart.

Day 2: Growing Up in Christ
Reading: Ephesians 4:11-16; Hebrews 5:11-14
Devotional: God doesn't want us to remain spiritual children, easily swayed by every new teaching or cultural trend. He calls us to maturity—to grow up into Christ in every way. Like a ship without a rudder, immature believers are tossed about by winds of doctrine, human cunning, and shady schemes. But when we're grounded in Scripture and walking in truth, we become stable, discerning, and fruitful. Maturity means we can distinguish good from evil, truth from error. It requires intentional growth through God's Word, fellowship with other believers, and the Holy Spirit's work in renewing our minds. Ask yourself: Am I still drinking spiritual milk, or am I ready for solid food? Commit today to one practice that will deepen your spiritual maturity.

Devotional: When Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" He posed the most critical question any person must answer. Peter's confession—"You are the Christ, the Son of the living God"—became the bedrock upon which the church stands. Not Peter himself, but the truth he proclaimed. This distinction matters deeply. Our faith isn't built on human leaders, traditions, or institutions, but on the unshakable reality that Jesus is the Messiah, God's Son. Every doctrine, every practice, every belief must be weighed against this foundational truth. Today, examine what your faith rests upon. Is it built on the solid rock of Christ's identity, or on shifting sand? Let this confession anchor your soul: Jesus is Lord.
