Southport Congregational Church

Southport Congregational Church Located at 524 Pequot Avenue, Southport Congregational Church (founded in 1843)

Southport Congregational Church is a warm and welcoming, open and affirming, community of people who want to encourage and cultivate the abundance of love, life, comfort, peace, health, joy and meaning that God desires for us all. We believe that each person is called by God to minister to one another and the world. We accomplish our mission through our worship, education and spiritual development

for all ages, outreach to others in need, friendship and fellowship. As a church family, we welcome and value each person as individuals created in God’s image. We unite to share our faith and sense of wonder, joys and sorrows, hopes and dreams, love and support, in the manner of Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Savior and our guide.

This past Sunday, we were blessed to welcome Bryan Nurnberger, founder of Simply Smiles Children's Villages, during our Second Hour gathering.

As followers of Christ, we are called to care for the vulnerable, love our neighbors, and help children flourish in safe and nurturing communities. Through the work of Simply Smiles in Oaxaca, Mexico, children are being reminded that they are deeply loved, valued, and created by God for a bright future.

We are grateful for Bryan's visit and for the many ways Southport Congregational Church has partnered with this ministry over the years through prayer, service, and generosity. May we continue to be the hands and feet of Christ, sharing God's love with children both near and far.

Faith in Action 💙

God is at work whenever people gather in love, share a meal, offer kindness, and see one another as beloved children of God.

Our Senior High Youth Group recently spent time at Pivot Ministries sharing food, fellowship, creativity, and conversation with members of the community. It was a joyful reminder that ministry often happens through simple moments of presence, friendship, and connection.

We are grateful for opportunities to be Christ's hands and feet in the world and to witness God's love already at work in our neighbors.

With grateful hearts, we celebrated Seminarian Matthew Ceurvorst during his final Sunday at SCC. 🤍

Through prayers, the laying on of hands, and the gift of a beautifully custom-made stole from the Beequilters, we gave thanks for Matthew’s faithful service, kind spirit, and the years he spent walking alongside the SCC community.

As Matthew graduates from Harvard Divinity School and begins this next chapter, we pray God’s continued blessings, guidance, and peace over his journey ahead.

“May the Lord bless you and keep you.” — Numbers 6:24

Faith, fellowship, and a little fashion fun ✨

Last Sunday, we celebrated Carousel Appreciation Sunday with a special fashion show presented by SHYG, featuring stylish looks created entirely from Carousel Thrift Shop finds. From creativity to community, it was a joyful reminder that every donation, volunteer hour, and purchase helps support the ministries and outreach of Southport Congregational Church.

Thank you to everyone who makes Carousel such a meaningful part of SCC’s mission and community life. 💙

No one is ever beyond God’s love and grace. 💙

We’re grateful for the opportunity to worship together and share in God’s presence during chapel service at Pivot Ministries, led by Rev. Dr. Mark Waterstone last week.

In every place and every season of life, God continues to meet people with hope, healing, and the reminder that they are deeply loved.

Thank you to Pivot Ministries—one of Southport Congregational Church’s mission agencies—for the warm welcome and for the meaningful work you do each day.

“You can never be too lost for God to find you.” 💙

During this Sunday’s Children’s Sermon, Rev. Dr. Mark Waterstone shared a beautiful reminder for all ages: no matter where we go, what we face, or how lost we may feel, nothing can separate us from the love of God.

God’s love reaches farther than we could ever wander — and His grace never stops searching for us.

Sometimes the simplest messages are the ones we need to hear most. ✨

Senior High Youth Group showed up and got to work this weekend! 💪🍂

From clearing leaves to helping clean up around the church, our students spent Saturday serving alongside Tim and Dwaine—and it made a difference.

So grateful for a group that’s always willing to jump in and help. 💙

God meets us right where we are—and gently calls us into who we’re meant to be. 💙

Last Friday at our Women’s Retreat, led by Rev. Dr. Mark Waterstone, we journeyed with the Apostle Peter through the Gospel of John and took time to reflect, reconnect, and discover our truest selves in Christ.

So grateful for a beautiful evening of faith, fellowship, and growth.
