What a wonderful week of Jewish education and fun social programming! Highlights from this week at CSZ include our fantastic family trip to Little Ceasar’s Arena in Detroit to see our lovable Red Wings face off against one of the NHL’s most successful teams, the Florida Panthers. A few lucky CSZ kids got to sit in the penalty box and watch the teams warm up, and then ride along with the Zamboni machines as they prepared the ice for the game. Even though the Wings did not win the game, everyone from CSZ came out feeling like a winner!
Another important highlight from last week was our older grades’ field trip to the Zekelman Holocaust Center. As a part of their studies on Yom HaShoah, Grades 6 & 7 explored the museum with our educators, including Hazzan David Propis. We discussed the impact of the Holocaust on our identity, linking it to the broader curriculum in Grades 6 & 7 which focuses on modern Jewish history and Jewish identity. Students also met with survivor Irene Miller who told us about her harrowing journey as a child trying to escape the N***s, and the importance of carrying on the legacy of the survivors. Participants discussed their personal connections to the Shoah, and learned about why it is important for people of all faiths to study the Holocaust in every era and ensure that such a horrific event will never happen again.
This weekend we have more amazing Jewish educational programs including our new Family Shabbat Experiences on Saturday morning and our Video Game Truck Social Action event for Grades 5 and up on Sunday afternoon.
