On Sunday, Pastor Young’s sermon “Waterfalls,” inspired by John 4:13-14, explored the story of the Samaritan woman at the well and challenged us to examine what we’ve been chasing in life that promises satisfaction but leaves us empty. Drawing from TL’s iconic song, this sermon calls us to stop chasing temporary substitutes and turn to the eternal source that never runs dry.

Join us for Week 2 of our summer Bible study series, Songs in a Strange Land.

When the Government Feels Strange explores Mary's song of praise in Luke 1:46–55, the Magnificat. Even under Roman occupation, Mary sang of God's justice, mercy, and coming kingdom. When the world feels uncertain, God's people are still called to sing, hope, and prophesy.

When Christ appears, the hidden life you've been living will be revealed in glory—it will all be worth it

This powerful message invites us to examine what we do with our second chances. Drawing from Colossians 3:1-4, we're confronted with a transformative truth: since we've been raised with Christ, we're called to live on higher ground. The sermon uses the story of Stevie Wonder's near-fatal car accident in 1973 as a compelling parallel—when he emerged from a four-day coma, he didn't want to return to the same low ground he'd been living on before. His song 'Higher Ground' became a testimony of gratitude for another chance at life. Similarly, the Colossian church had received the greatest second chance in history through Christ's resurrection, yet they were still living at lower levels, chasing substitutes like spirit powers and celestial systems instead of the God who raised them. We're challenged to consider three essential shifts: developing a higher desire (setting our hearts on things above), gaining a higher perspective (seeing our circumstances from where Christ is seated), and embracing higher living (letting our transformed source change our daily behavior). The message reminds us that many of us are guilty of the same pattern—consulting horoscopes, bowing to systems and substitutes, giving our hearts to everything except the One who holds all power. When we truly grasp that we've been given another chance, our desires should change, our perspective should shift, and our living should reflect the resurrection power that saved us.

In a world filled with distractions, disappointments, and discouragement, God calls us to lift our eyes higher.

Stevie Wonder preached a whole sermon on Higher Ground and Pastor Young brought it to the pulpit yesterday morning.

Colossians 3:1-4 reminds us that since we've been raised with Christ, we can't keep living at ground level. The second chance we've been given through Christ is calling us to higher ground.
