Friday, June 12, 2026

Dear Family and Friends,

I wish to thank everyone who has brought flags for our celebration of Flag Day and our 250th birthday on the 4th of July. The flags have now been placed on display by the church walk way by Michele Fahhoum and Juliet Sharp. We would still like additional flags for the celebration. If anyone would like to bring more flags, they will be added to the display. Thank you.

I have been informed that the Rummage Sale will continue this Saturday, June 13, and extend to next Saturday, June 20. Please let other people know about our sale.

Looking ahead, on July 5, we will be confirming 3 adults and 3 young people and welcoming 1 person by profession of faith. July 5 also happens to be the Sunday of “Pastor Pellom’s Picnic.” It will be a wonderful day of celebration.

Exodus 2:3
3But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.

Exodus 2 introduces us to the great leader of the Israelites, Moses. In a short, and rather quick, narrative, we read in Exodus 2 of Moses birth, his privileged upbringing, and his departure from Egypt under the threat of death. God protected Moses at his birth and placed him in Pharaoh’s house. At some point in his early life, Moses comes to realize his heritage. He seeks to help his people only to be rejected. When he flees Egypt, he finds a wife and becomes a shepherd until God intervenes.

God who foresees the end from the beginning and God who frustrates the plans of men—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we rejoice that You always guide Your children according to Your plans and for Your purposes. Although Pharaoh intended evil for Your people, You provided a child who would bring relief and help to those enslaved and suffering. We ask Your help this day. Be with those who have been taken captive by sin. Be with those who are journeying through life lost and alone. Be with those who are in the midst of crisis. To all these, pour out Your grace, fill hearts with Your love, and grant Your hope that gives direction, healing, and comfort. We pray, in and by the Name of Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer for Thursday, June 11

Exodus 1:8
8Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.

Here is a lesson on the importance of history. It had been many years, but a king (or Pharaoh) came to power who did not know the history of his nation. He had not learned how Joseph, single handedly, was responsible for Egypt survival in a time of severe crisis. He did not know the blessing that Joseph and his people had been to the nation. All this new king saw was a great multitude who he feared. History is not stories to be ignored but experience to be learned. For Christians, God’s history, recorded in His Word, is to be studied, learned, and treasured that the righteous might live by faith and avoid costly mistakes.

God of the past, God of the present, and God of the future—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, help us to learn from the mistakes that people made in the past so that we will not make the same or similar mistakes today, but might be prepared to walk confidently into the future as we strive to obey Your Word and follow Your instruction. May the history of Your written word be the guide to Your blessings and fellowship today. Direct our path so that we do not repeat the mistakes of the past. We do ask today, for Your healing hand to be upon a number of members of the Prince of Peace congregation who are having health issues; please keep them in Your care. Let Your Holy Spirit fill our lives with love, joy, and peace, this day. Amen.

Genesis 50:25-26
25Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely take care of you, and you shall carry my bones up from here.” 26So Joseph died at the age of one hundred and ten years; and he was embalmed and placed in a coffin in Egypt.

I have heard it said, that Genesis begins in a garden and ends with a box of bones in Egypt. It implies that something went wrong. Joseph and his brothers have taken Jacob back to the land of Canaan and buried him with his fathers. The brothers, concerned that Joseph may now seek revenge make up a story about Jacob’s last words. Joseph sees through the story and assures his brothers that what they meant for evil, God meant for good. Finally, at 110, Joseph dies. Now, something wrong did happen. Sin entered the garden and death took hold. God’s promises still hold true and God is still with His children but sin has changed everything.

God whose purposes never fail and God whose provisions never expire—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, nothing is beyond Your foresight. When sin marred Your wonderful creation, You brought resolution and reconciliation through the humiliation of Your Son. Through the power of the cross, forgiveness was granted and life was made anew. Though sin is still present, its power is no longer supreme. And though we may end as bones in a box, we will live on with You for eternity. May we learn to see beyond the problems of the present to recognize that future that You are preparing for all the people that You love and all the people that love You. We seek Your blessing this day and ask for Your guidance in the name of Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, all in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayer for Tuesday, June 9

Genesis 49:1 & 21
1Then Jacob summoned his sons and said, “Assemble yourselves that I may tell you what will befall you in the days to come.” . . . 21“Naphtali is a doe let loose, He gives beautiful words.”

Knowing that his time was growing short, Jacob gathers his sons and shares a “word” with each. Some of the words indicated a future while some described the character or temperament of the tribe to come. The “word” to Naphtali, is one that I find interesting. It points to a certain freedom and the ability to speak a message with eloquence. And in a way directs us today to Christ, who gives words of grace and works freedom from sin.

O God, whose work gives us faith and whose word provides us freedom—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, may our speech be in beautiful words. Let us with great joy speak words of praise and worship to You for all the good gifts You give to us. Let us with great love speak words of love and forgiveness to those who are lost and in darkness. Let us with hope speak words that bring comfort and peace to those in distress and fear. Help our speech possess an eloquence that guides people to Your Kingdom. Let us now and always sing the songs of heaven before You and offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Prayer for Monday, June 8

Genesis 48:5
5“Now your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine, as Reuben and Simeon are.”

Joseph was informed that Jacob, his father, was sick, so Joseph took his two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, to visit him. At that time, Jacob claims Joseph’s sons as his and equal with all his others sons. The action might seem strange but it results in Joseph’s descendants being given a double share of Jacob’s inheritance. As the son of Jacob’s favorite wife, Rachel, Joseph was entitled to a double blessing. By adopting Joseph’s sons, Jacob gives Joseph a double blessing in the promised land.

God of time and God of eternity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we bow in worship and praise before You this day. We thank You that You provided a double blessing for Joseph through his sons. As Joseph endured harsh treatment from his brothers without complaint and yet brought blessing to the family, help us to bring a double blessing to those we encounter this day and especially to our families. Guide us through Your written word and by the presence of Your Holy Spirit to show love and forgiveness to all this day. Help us to walk in the path of righteousness showing forth the truth of the gospel that other people would see You in our lives. May Jesus shine in us and through us this day. Amen.

Genesis 47:5-6
5Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you. 6The land of Egypt is at your disposal; settle your father and your brothers in the best of the land, let them live in the land of Goshen; and if you know any capable men among them, then put them in charge of my livestock.”

Jacob and his extended family have joined Joseph in Egypt. Scripture records the total number in Egypt came to be 70. Joseph has the opportunity to present Jacob to Pharaoh and Pharaoh offers Jacob and his sons the best land in Egypt. With Jacob and his sons settled in Goshen, scripture records the shrewd business dealings of Joseph, first acquiring the people’s money, then their animals, and finally their land all for food and survival. Joseph was not being greedy, but provided for the survival of the nation and its citizens with his God-given wisdom.

Seeking that wisdom that comes down from above, we turn to You, O Lord God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You sent Joseph to Egypt as a slave but turned him into a ruler. You provided him with knowledge to interrupt dreams and wisdom to safeguard a nation. We often find Your ways strange, O Lord, but help us to always be obedient to You, knowing that You work all things for Your glory and honor. Teach us to be like Joseph. Let us not complain when times are bad and the future unclear. Give us the ability to trust in You and await Your outcome. Provide us with the knowledge and wisdom that we need each day to live lives that glorify You. We take a moment to pray for those amongst us with health concerns and physical problems. May Your healing hand be upon them. By the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we do pray. Amen.

Genesis 46:29-30
29Joseph prepared his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; as soon as he appeared before him, he fell on his neck and wept on his neck a long time. 30Then Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive.”

Joseph’s brothers returned to their father, Jacob, with the news that Joseph was alive. What a shock it must have been to Jacob and how many questions the brothers must have had to answer for their father. With the news that Joseph is alive, Jacob, his sons, their families, and all that is with them head to Egypt. Jacob receives word from God that He will be with him in Egypt, make him a great nation, and one day return his descendants to this land. What a joyful and memorable scene we see when Jacob and Joseph, father and son, are reunited. How joyful it can be when families are reconciled and reunited after years of separation and division.

With the light of the morning sun, we look to Your light, O Lord God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, to shine on our journey this day. In the record of Jacob’s family, we see deception by father and sons, we see the division that results from deception, and we find trickery of every kind. So family relationships were torn apart and envy and greed were daily occurrences. But You brought about forgiveness and restoration. Help us this day, to work for peace amongst our families and friends. We pray that You will restore relationships, make forgiveness a reality, and help us to be reconciled to one another, just like Joseph, his brothers, and Jacob. We thank You that through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, that You have reconciled us to You, and in His Name, we pray. Amen.

Genesis 45:3-4
3Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence. 4Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come closer to me.” And they came closer. And he said, “I am your brother Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt.

Having deceived his brothers and having brought them back under false pretenses, Joseph’s heart is deeply moved and he can no longer contain himself. He orders all his household staff out and reveals his identity to his brothers. What a shock that must have been! The brothers most likely thought Joseph was dead and at the very least an unknown slave in the land of Egypt, but no, here was their brother, standing in front of them, ruler in the land. The first question that Joseph asks concerned his father, was he alive. Now reunited, Joseph sends wagons, gifts, and servants to bring his family to the land of Egypt so that they would survive the famine. Joseph is quick to realize that his journey to Egypt was for the salvation of Jacob and his sons.

God, whose plans are to complicated for us to comprehend and God, who prepares for events that we are unaware of and cannot foresee—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we thank You that You show compassion to Joseph’s sinful brothers. Although, they sought to rid themselves of a troublemaker, You prepared for the troublemaker to bless them with a future. Help us to realize that the events in our lives are direct by You for the sake of those in need. We give You praise for the salvation You have granted us, now guide us to see that by and through us You are providing salvation for others. As Joseph became a blessing for his brothers, make us a blessing for all the people that we are privileged to touch each day. Fill us with Your Spirit today, that we might live holy and righteous lives for Your kingdom now and always. Amen.

Genesis 44:15
15Joseph said to them [i.e., his brothers], “What is this deed that you have done? Do you not know that such a man as I can indeed practice divination?”

After providing his brothers with a lavish banquet, Joseph sent them home with supplies but once again hid their money in their sacks of grain. Upon heading out of the city, Joseph sends his servants after them. They find the money and return Joseph’s brothers to him. Although Joseph claims it was his “practice of divination” that lead to the discovery, it was simply a ruse to deceive his brothers and have them brought back. Judah pleads with Joseph for Benjamin and offers himself in place of Benjamin. In the end, this will touch Joseph’s heart and his hard facade, his tough exterior will break.

God of goodness and God of guidance—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we witness how Joseph used his power and authority to manipulate his brothers. And although it is often wrong to use manipulation, Joseph used it to search the hearts and sincerity of his brothers because of what they had done to him. Help us to properly discern between the times when manipulation might be the right course of action and when it would be sinful and improper. Help us also to discern when others might be trying to manipulate us into doing something wrong or sinful. Keep us always on the path that leads to You. To You be all praise, glory, and honor. Amen.

Genesis 43:16
16When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to his house steward, “Bring the men into the house, and slay an animal and make ready; for the men are to dine with me at noon.”

This is now the second trip Jacob’s sons have made to retrieve food in Egypt. On the first trip, Joseph warned that they would not see his face unless they brought their youngest brother. Jacob did not want Benjamin to go to Egypt but the brothers made it clear to their father that they would not return to Egypt without him. Jacob relented upon a pledge from Judah. So the 11 brothers headed down to Egypt. What a surprise waited them there. When Joseph saw his brother Benjamin, he made plans for a feast. But Joseph once again deceived his brothers by placing their money in their sacks when they left for home. But the best was yet to come.

God of amazing power and God of absolute peace—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we celebrate with joy Your very nature as a Father of love, a Son of forgiveness, and a Spirit of comfort. Joseph’s brothers did not understand what was happening and were confused by Joseph’s invitation to a banquet. They thought they were in trouble, but You had a bigger plan in motion. Help us when things seem strange so that we are not fearful but confident of our trust in You. May we learn to see all aspects of our lives under Your guidance and direction. Help us this day to walk in faith with You through every minute and in every hour. Standing forgiven in Jesus, we place our prayers before You, O Lord our God. Amen.
