Beloved, one of the greatest tests of faith is not how loudly you can praise God when everything is working in your favour, but how firmly you can trust Him when life refuses to make sense.
It is easy to declare that God is faithful when the doors are opening, the money is flowing, your family is at peace, your health is strong, and your prayers are receiving visible answers. But what happens when the doors close, people disappoint you, your efforts seem wasted, and heaven appears silent? Will you still trust Him when you cannot trace Him?
Never allow the pain of your present season to erase the evidence of God's faithfulness in your past. The God who sustained you yesterday has not lost His power today. His character has not changed because your circumstances have changed. Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Here is a truth you must carry in your heart: the valley does not mean you have lost God's presence, and the mountain does not mean you have mastered God's ways. Both seasons require humility, faith, and dependence on Him.
When you are on the mountain, do not become proud. Remember the One who lifted you. Do not despise people who are still struggling, because the season in which you are standing today may be the very season someone else is praying to enter.
When you are in the valley, do not become bitter. Do not allow disappointment to poison your heart, injustice to destroy your integrity, or delay to convince you that your life has no purpose. You may not understand why certain things are happening, but you can choose not to surrender your peace to what you cannot control.
Remember Joseph. His journey included betrayal, slavery, false accusations, and imprisonment before he entered the palace. His difficult seasons did not make his story meaningless. Eventually, God used the very life he had lived to preserve others (Genesis 50:20). His story reminds us that suffering need not have the final word, even when the path to restoration is long.
Here are five principles to live by in every season:
1. Do not abandon your convictions because of your conditions. Let your character remain anchored in God's Word, whether life is rewarding you or testing you.
2. Do not make permanent decisions from temporary pain. When you are wounded, slow down, pray, seek wise counsel, and allow your emotions to settle before making life-changing choices.
3. Do not confuse God's timing with God's rejection. Some doors may remain closed, some answers may take longer than expected, and some losses may never be fully explained. Keep trusting God while taking the wise, practical steps available to you.
4. Protect your heart while you endure your season. Refuse to become the very thing that wounded you. You can establish boundaries without hatred, pursue justice without vengeance, and acknowledge pain without allowing bitterness to rule your life.
5. Keep walking. Psalm 23:4 does not say that you will live forever in the valley. It says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley.” Keep praying, keep learning, keep serving, keep working, and keep taking faithful steps. You do not need to see the entire road to take the next right step.
Above all, never build your relationship with God solely on what He gives you. Love Him for who He is. Trust Him when the answer is yes, remain faithful when the answer is delayed, and seek His wisdom when the answer is different from what you expected.
Perhaps today, your valley is filled with questions nobody can answer. Perhaps you are carrying responsibilities that nobody sees, fighting battles you cannot explain, or smiling publicly while struggling privately. Take heart. You do not have to pretend that you are strong every moment. You can be honest with God about your pain and still remain a person of faith.
