Please join us for worship today at 10:00 a.m.! We're bringing to a close our summer preaching series on "Holy Friendship: The Ties That Bind Us Together." We'll be turning to a powerful story that comes at the end of the Gospel of Luke. In Luke 24:13–35, two disciples are walking the road to Emmaus, trying to make sense of the devastating events surrounding Jesus’ death. Along the way, a stranger joins them — and as they walk and talk and eventually share a meal together, their eyes are opened to the presence of the Risen Christ. Their story reminds us that holy friendship can begin in unexpected places — with a stranger who becomes a friend, a conversation that opens our hearts, or a shared table that reveals God’s presence right in our midst. As we conclude this series, we’ll consider how God meets us through the people who walk alongside us — and how we, too, might become holy friends to all those we encounter along the way.

Since it is the first Sunday of the month, worship will include communion. If you're worshiping from home, please remember to gather something you can eat and something you can drink so you'll be ready to participate in communion with us.

It will be good to worship together TODAY at 10:00 a.m., either in person or online! You can find our worship livestream right here on the Old South Union Church - Weymouth page. And you can find the order of the service below:

It’s Saturday, which means it’s time to breathe!

Each Saturday, we share a different breath prayer to carry with you throughout the coming week. A breath prayer is a brief phrase repeated in rhythm with your breathing: one part as you breathe in, and the other as you breathe out. It is a simple way to focus your mind, calm your spirit, and connect with God.

Today's prayer connects to the sermon from last Sunday, which was part of our summer preaching series on "holy friendship." In her sermon, Rev. Jennie talked about how prayer is a gift that keeps on giving. It's something that we receive, and then we pass it along to others. This prayer is a reminder of the blessing of holy friendship — a gift we receive with an abundance of gratitude and then pass along with an abundance of grace. Give this breath prayer a try, and let us know how it goes!

Students are heading back to school today in the Town of Weymouth! As children and teens prepare for the first day of a new academic year, share this blessing with them before they head out the door. And let's be in prayer for all the students, teachers, staff, and parents who are both eager for the start of a new year and anxious about what the months ahead will hold. If there's someone in particular we should pray for, you can share their name in the comments. Or simply type "Amen!" to join us in praying for the start of a new school year.

Prayer for a New School Year

O God, as we begin a new school year, we ask for your blessing to be upon us. Fill our minds with curiosity and wonder. Open our hearts to friends old and new. Give us courage to include those who are different from us. Help us find peace when we are anxious and confidence when we are afraid. Remind us to be kind — always kind. Keep us safe. Surround us with your love and guide us with your light, on this first day of school and all through the year ahead. Amen.

It's time for our midweek prayer post! You can share your requests in the comments, trusting there is a loving community of faith that will read your requests and join you in prayer. Because that's what it means to be church! We help to carry each other's burdens and celebrate each other's joys.

So how can we pray for you today? You can share a name or a specific need, you can leave a longer request, or you can simply type "Amen" and we'll pray for you by name, trusting that God knows our every need without us having to say a word.

O Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers...

All the items we collect will be donated to the Weymouth Food Pantry’s Backpack Program. Neighbors helping neighbors is what it's all about!
