AWARD WINNING ARTIST RENEE KING

MEET THE ARTIST SEPTEMBER 6 11:30 a.m.
We are delighted to welcome the art of Renee King to our gallery spaces.
If you follow our page, you have likely seen her engaging work being installed, along with a few pictures. Renee is an award-winning pastel artist, photographer, watercolor artist and urban sketching artist. This exhibit contains several different styles of her work.
In addition to her painting artwork, King holds an advanced certificate in bookbinding, and has a long career in music and music education. (see below)
Renee has studied with award winning artists Doug House, Lucy LeMay, Katherine Salverda, and Ian Fennelly. She says, "I discovered that working with these artists was part instruction, part finding my own artistic voice, and part passing it on."
In 2019, while teaching at an American School in Bratislava, Slovakia, Renee took advantage of a gift from her husband Charles, and studied with Pável, an architect turned urban sketcher.
King says "Urban sketching led me, most recently, to Ian Fennelly, an urban sketcher from Hoylake in England whose approach is all about capturing the character of a building, a street scene, think an architect meets expressionism." Whimsy and movement infuse his work and his instruction, and I’ve grown from an artist trying to capture exactly what I see in front of me to an artist working to put the feeling of a place on paper in watercolor."
Renee King holds an M.A. degree in Music Education. She has taught middle school, high school, and college-age students. She has held a Headmaster's position at a private school and has been a church musician, directing choirs and playing piano. In 1994, she was named Teacher of the Year for the North Branch school district, and in 2004 nominated by her students for MN Teacher of the Year. In 2006, the Minnesota Music Association named her Minnesota Music Educator of the Year. King chaired a committee that brought an Artist Series to a rural community; served on the state board for the MN Music Listening Team; held the position of Choral Vice President for the MN Music Educators Ass;n where she organized and planned the MN All-State Choir camp for two years. She is a featured artist at the Stillwater Artist Guild Gallery.
